Merrick Grain Free Dry Dog Food Recipes

My vet recommended Merrick Dog Food for its quality ingredients. I had started my pup (a miniature poodle) on the lamb Merrick dog food and he had developed a skin infection. The vet put him on medication and recommended we switch him to a salmon based food because they tend to have low allergies. His skin has cleared up and his coat is very soft! He seems to enjoy the food as well! I am feeding him based on the guidelines on the package and his weight has stayed consistent and healthy. It is pricier than other brands of food but I believe you are getting what you pay for. Also, since my pup only eats a little over 1 cup a day, it lasts a while. The bag is resealable, which is a nice feature to keep it from getting stale.**Note: I purchased this prior to Merrick being bought out by Purina. I am not sure if that will affect the quality or ingredients used. This was purchased in June, 2015. The merger happened in July, 2015.

It seemed like every other week my dogs were sick. Puking, diarrhea, and always tired. After a few trips to the vet (who said nothing was wrong) and lab tests, I decided to try changing their food. I'm glad I did. I noticed a change in both dogs within 2 days. Normal bowel movements, full of life, and ever their coats are softer and shinier! They love this food too. They would just stare at their old food and wait til they were starving before they ate it. Now I barely get the bowl on the floor before they start inhaling it! I would recommend this food to anyone who is having digestive issues with their dogs. It is also pretty reasonably priced. Thank you Merrick!

You hear so much about the stuff their putting in our dogs food and it's very scary. My little Shih-Tzu who refused dog food had been on a home cooked diet for six years and was doing great. The problem was I got to thinking about it and was asking myself if something happened to me or there was some kind of emergency who would cook for him? So I started researching dry dog foods to find the best one to supplement his diet, so there wouldn't be any tummy problems if he had to eat a dry food. We tried a few different brands and he wouldn't even touch them. Then I came across Merrick brand. I read all I could find on the company and how they make their dog food. I liked what I read. So we got a small bag from the pet store and tried it out. I believe it was the Beef and sweet Potato. He ate a few pieces as a treat and then I started putting a few pieces at a time mixed in with his food. He spit it out a few times but then started picking it back up and eating it. Something he never did with any of the other brands. He has been eating Merrick food for two years now and is healthy and happy at eating time. We mix the Beef, the Pork and the Duck together in containers so there's always a mixture of different foods in his bowl. My dog does not tolerate grains so this is a great food for him. We also just got a little rescue dog and he loves this food. They will come and find you at dinner time so I guess they like what their eating.

My dog has several different food and environmental allergies. Sick of spending tons of money on dog food you can only buy at the vet (Hill's) I was looking for something that would fit my pup's needs. Merrick is it! She loves the food, scarfing it down as soon as I put it in her bowl. That was not the case with her last food. After a short adjustment period, her poops are together and well formed. Her body is not as itchy or uncomfortable as before. This food really works!

All the other flavors tend to have a lot of "seasoning" at the bottom of the bag, most of which tend to be really rich in oils and can upset a sensitive dog's stomach (in my experience) - ironically it is the duck flavor which has the best consistency, the pellets are a little harder but the kibble shape is uniform and the bottom of the bag is never filled with crumbs at the end of each bag. My dog stopped getting acid reflux as soon as we switched back to the duck flavor. Shame I can't find the duck at Petco/Petsmart - I'm hoping Amazon doesn't discontinue stocking this.

My 13 year old Border Collie developed severe food intolerance to chicken and rice (and I'm not sure what all else). We spent a year figuring out that her multiple illnesses and conditions were caused by food intolerance and then finding a diet that her damaged system could tolerate. She was so sick so much of that time that I thought I was going to lose her. Finally, Merrick Salmon and Sweet Potato formula did the trick. After just one week on this food she bounced back to better health; at the end of a month she was acting like a six year old again. She doesn't just tolerate it... she loves it and thrives on it! I love it for giving me back my old 'pup'.Now that she is stable I alternate the Merrick Salmon every few months with Zignature Lamb and Peas formula just as a precaution against her developing additional intolerance. The Zignature is another good choice for her health but her stools are larger and more frequent with the pea starch so she gets Merrick Salmon three months out of four.

I have 2 standard poodle rescues one 6yo and the other 15 months. They both LOVE this food. I have tried numerous dry food from Blue Buffalo to Taste of the Wild. This is an excellent food, using nothing from China and locally grown ingredients. I pay a bit more but use less and I mix this with Wellness Core Fish (Merrick does not make a fish canned food to my knowledge) and my guys absolutely love it. Their coats are shinny and their ears seem to have less issues from non grain-free foods. My 2 happen to really like fish and that might not be a flavor for some, if you have a fish eater then this is a winning combination.
