Good Breastfeeding Book
I’m studying for the IBCLE exam and reading this book front to back. It has a great amount of factual knowledge and gives great judgement advice. It’s a good buy for anyone wanting to learn more about breastfeeding and the physiological mechanisms behind it!

This book is recommended for the IBCLC exam. This book is very American, in content as well in describing various subject and evidence behind. Laws and regulations as well. Breastfeeding and human lactation is the only literature that covers all the subject required to take the IBCLC exam. The IBLCE office does not recommend any specific literature only the amount of subjects you need to know about to take the exam. IBCLC is an international profession and exam so there are big cultural differences behind this profession and different recommendations from various countries around the world. This book is however very American you have to be aware of and not get annoyed about when you are not American and living in America. EX. vitamin D is recommended to all danish babies, and it is not recommended to measure the Vit D in mum's milk since it won't pass into the baby in the recommended amount anyway. Next, LAM ( lactation amenorrhea method) is not recommended in Denmark at all, only a barrier as Condom until you can receive some low hormone treatment to prevent pregnancy. My experience at all is that LAM is NOT a good recommendation, only if you as a country want a lot of babies. Also, the sixth edition is not updated with ex WHO 10 steps to successful breastfeeding, an update came in 2016, so it is a shame a book from 2019 does not contain such an update, since the book in all aspect writes WHO code of ethics and WHO baby-friendly initiative. It gives you a feeling of what other recommendations you are not up to date. Since you also are preparing for recertification for the IBCLC exam, just to get updated. When that is sat the book is divided into each subject following the recommendation in the exam. However, I like the summary and keynotes after every chapter, followed by multiple choices on the included navigate 2 test prep. Then I like the pictures of the last pages that show various problems described. However the IIBCLC exam contains cases with pictures of various breastfeeding situations or problems, and the book does not contain that. So you have to buy another online appendix in the comprehensive test prep. From the IBCE office, we learn that the result of the exam will be evaluated so every question will be valued after culture of country recommendation. So don't get frustrated when you read the book. But I can recommend Mrs Wambach to describe more laws and regulations from other countries as well.
