I'm a repeat Staedtler customer for a reason - and I was highly pleased with this latest one
I've owned a previous Staedtler model that finally "died" from long and constant use. I've also owned some "look alike" products that were quite adequate, but were also worn out (or lost). But I was not disappointed when this arrived - it appears to be the same quality I appreciated in my original Staedtler, and accepts the same lead and pen refills that all of my other pens did (both Staedtler and otherwise). Could not be more pleased. The design is more sleek than the earlier ones, the metal tab to hold it in one's pocket appears to be even more sturdy than other pens I've had, and I have no complaints at all. When I lost my most recent pen, I was afraid I'd have to spend considerably more to replace it, and was quite pleased to find this one at a very reasonable price. It's not a plastic "Bic," so you're not going to pay a "Bic" price for it. Worth it? No question - that's why I keep coming back to this style and particularly the Staedtler quality - yet I don't have to pay a ridiculous "premium" price for what still amounts to "just" a writing instrument. I've tried the $100 pens in the store, and frankly, I just don't "get it." I've got a three color pen, pencil, and eraser, housed in an attractive all-metal case, that's well engineered. I can change out the colors to get a stylus and/or a highlighter pen refill (which I've done before), and keep this as customized as I need in a normal sized pen that also feels very comfortable. What more should I want?

Staedtler, Welcome back to the big leagues!!! Great Multi-functional Avant Garde Pen
This pen is really comfortable when writing with it. Staedtler has made an outstanding design and the touch of the multipen while writting is really amazing.I just have to make a design advice to them: You forgot to change the highlighter name for the Blue ink, so I thought it might have it instead of the blue ink part. Overall, it is a well-designed pen to write with.

Works well, like their pen points, but lacks the heft and the looks of some others.
I use multi-point pens at work alot. It works well and I like their pen points. It works almost as well as the other German brand I have, and as well or better than the Japanese one I have, but it lacks the heft of the German & Japanese brands I have. It has a nice brushed finish, but is not as sharp lookng as my favorite two. It's my third favorite multi-point pen after the other German one and the Japanese one.

It's comfortable to write with for extended periods and I like ...
This review is for the blue Staedtler Multi Functrion Avant Garde in Urban Blue. It's comfortable to write with for extended periods and I like the flexibility to go from black and red ink or a lead pencil. Arrived in it's own Staedtler box which makes for a nice presentation if gift giving It's not heavy but lightly weighted to be comfortable and the width is nice and not uncomfortable. It was a good purchase!

I'll provide some of my thoughts on the pen so I haven't completely wasted your time
I apologize in advance as this isn't exactly a review (I haven't used it enough yet). Mine actually came with black, red AND blue ink, as well as the 0.5 mm pencil. There is no indication for blue on the body of the multi-pen but it's there - unscrewing the tip proves it (see photo, if I've done this correctly). The manual might explain the situation but it's in Japanese, a language of which I am completely ignorant. That being said, I'll provide some of my thoughts on the pen so I haven't completely wasted your time. It's an extremely professional looking writing instrument, with a very clean look. The body of the pen becomes gradually thicker near the middle and the extra width works well as a grip. There is a definite texture to the body of the pen - it feels almost like a fabric. The multiple functions work by gravity - the functions of the pen (ink colors, pencil) are listed on the body. To select one, you hold the pen horizontally, rotate it until you see the desired function, and then you click the cap. It takes a little practice to realize exactly what position to hold the pen to get what you want, but fortunately the pen tips are color-coded so you can see immediately if you've goofed. Having the extra blue ink in there has caused me to goof up more often than not.I'm not very big on pros or cons but here are a few things to note about this pen. The ink is just plain ballpoint ink. If you've gotten used to advanced inks (PaperMate Inkjoy, the wonderful awesomeness that is Uni-Ball Jetstream, etc.) this will be a disappointment. I haven't researched refills but I imagine they aren't just lying around like dust bunnies so that's something to consider. Also, Staedtler leads seem softer than Pentel so if you're heavy-handed you should probably expect some breakage. Replacing the lead from the get-go eliminates this issue. Lastly, this pen features one of those teensy "emergency" erasers under a cap and THERE'S NO WAY ON THIS EARTH you're going to be able to replace the cap without activating whatever function is set to go. That sucker is on there BUT GOOD, and putting it back takes effort.Bottom line - I'm glad I added this to my collection but it's not my favorite multi-pen and I feel it's more expensive than necessary. Will I hurl it out the car window while driving down the road? No. Will I buy a second one? Probably not.
