why are there 2 places on each sub to hook up speaker wires to. & does it matter which one to use ?

Dual voice coil, it give you more wiring options. Google dual voice coil sub wiring diagrams, and look on the back of the sub to see if it's dual 4ohm, 2ohm, etc

Does anybody know if this sub is better than vvx10v3?

Check the skar sight for wattage comparison i believe this is a new model and replacing vvx series
