Freezes - Faulty Hardware?
I bought this for a pfSense install based on online reviews and suggestions. Unfortunately, this little device has been giving me all kinds of issues.First, I went through 3 different approved/tested by the manufacturer SSDs without any of them being recognized by the device.Second, the device freezes constantly. The only way to get out of the freeze is to reboot the device. Eventually this corrupts, or creates an error loop, it changes between the two, to something in the OS. A fresh install is required to resolve the issue. I just attempted a fresh install (because of an error - reboot loop) and the device froze in the middle of it.I'm guessing it's faulty hardware, but for the price, and the hassle, I'll be looking for something more robust for a stand-alone or look into a bare metal vm install in the future.Still, it was a fun hands on project.

This is the firewall appliance to get
TL;DR/TL;WR: This is the appliance to get for a home or small office firewall. Affordable, compact, and very capable.First and foremost, Compulab is an Israeli company. There are no concerns about this thing trying to phone home or report subversion of the foundational principles. The pfSense install was easy enough, I did have to fix the controller timeout on boot, the device would boot completely...it just took longer. Display over hdmi was good, and the Logitech unifying receiver worked immediately.Setup was easy, and even with pfBlockerNG running this is still fast enough to saturate my link at 124mbs down and 16mbs up, I pay for 50/5 as we don't have gigabit yet. With the two port facet card you can create a rather robust home network with this. With one review here saying this has enough bandwidth to saturate his link at 930 down, there may not be a reason to get a better device for the home. With 9 clients connected to my router I'm using about 30% of my 8GB ram.CPU usage generally stays low, but this thing does run around 45c. I may end up putting a fan on it.
