Epicurean Gourmet Series Cutting Board, 17.5-Inch by 13-Inch, Nutmeg/Natural

I absolutely love Epicurean cutting boards. This is my third, not because they won’t last forever, but because I love having different colored and sizes. This board has the best qualities of wood and plastic while being neither, except that it did once cone from trees- it’s a compressed paper product, kinda like micarta in knife scales (handles) but harder.

Beautiful board with inlay on one side for collecting juices and flat surface on other side. It can be dishwasher because it not made of wood, but it can be trusted because it’s made in USA and not China.

I needed this size because of the space for my cutting boards. This one is noticeably thinner than most cutting boards, but seems very strong. No scratches from cutting, have used both sides. The "moat" is not deep, but is wider to catch drips, which makes the cutting area smaller on that side. I like that it's recycled and "green", and the natural/black color is handsome. There is no silicone "stops", so on certain surfaces it may slide. If it slides too much, put a couple of rubber bands under it. I know I want all the cutting space available. I've had this for a few weeks, but I use it daily. I would recommend this product to anyone who uses a cutting board a lot.

I ordered this after a friend raves about how wonderful hers was. She was right! The board is thin, yet sturdy and durable. I really like the channel around the outside edge. Keeps water and juices from Frits and veggies contained for easy clean- up. Surprisingly heavy, but manageable. I am really happy with this board. I am going to order the smaller one!

It looks good, performs well, is knife safe and can go in the dishwasher. What's not to like? It does slide around a bit, but I am going to take the advice of another reviewer and buy some small silicone feet to put on the back, which should solve the problem. Another reviewer mentioned that it "smells awful". Mine does not seem to have this problem -- it has hardly any odor, even when wet. It's possible that the manufacturing process leaves some "stuff" on it -- maybe run it through the dishwasher before use (probably a good idea for anything you're going to be putting food on anyway!)

I gotta tell you I was skeptical about this product. But after reading the rave reviews for Epicurian stuff on the web cooking sites and on Amazon, I went ahead and bit the bullet. When you replace cutting boards every couple years, the large ones can get expensive. At $65 bucks this isn't cheap, but its VERY attractive, durable and exceeded my expectations. This material (wood composite) is less apt to soak in juices and build up bacteria than wood or plastic. Can dishwasher, but I do only after 2-3 uses. You'd never do that to wood. Suggest no heat cycle like you should for plastic to avoid warp of any kind. It also seems very hard and scratch resistant. More so than wood or plastic, but not hard like ceramic where it would dull your knives. It's good looking on the counter, not that that is a big draw to me, but maybe to some. Great blood groove. No feet since its double sided, but heavy and doesn't slide around on counter.

These cutting board is very solid. Much thicker and heavier than the Epicurean Kitchen Series. It does slide around slightly on my granite countertop, but nothing I can't live with. I had zero smell unlike other reviews mentioned. Will probably purchase other sizes in the future. I am a big fan of Epicurean cutting boards.

Bought smaller one over a decade ago at giant eagle. Bought the biggest ( i think), still great. A lot more room for cutting. The groves are great for keeping counter or table dry. Cleans well, holds up to cuts well. Great quality. No experience with the all slate boards. My opinion is not recommended.
