If you like utter crazy ridiculous RPGs, Rifts is your game!
Despite what other people are saying as someone who has played Rifts for years, and also knows that RPGs have changed for the better (having played 5th Edition DnD I could never punish myself and play 2nd again), this game is amazing! This takes that which is Rifts at its core and transports it to a more streamlined system. Frankly the old game, while fun, had a lot of problems; easily abused mechanics, magic users were pretty much worthless, and many of the more characterful classes were outshone by Power Armor Jockeys and Dragons. Heck, in this modern RPG era getting anyone to play Rifts is nearly impossible (not everyone wants to devote 2 hours to making a character sheet). Not everything is going to transfer over, and not everything is going to be the same, but its spirit is there and so is the setting, and bonus if you have all the original books like I do its an easy conversion to use it in the new game! The key thing to remember about Rifts is that it takes everything, tropes, ideas, cheese, and throws in the kitchen sink, which is also covered in laser cannons, and amps it up to 11. This is not a game for people who want pure RPG interaction, although it can make it work. This is a combat game at its heart and full of 80s cheesiness and mohawks to boot. Its worth the cost, and the cost is pretty much nothing compared to the $50 price tag on a lot of books out there these days. Bravo to Pinnacle for such a great job and I look forward to picking up more of their stuff down the road. Im not a fan of PDFs but it will certainly do if I get my Rifts on!

The only RIFTS you should bother with!
Rifts has been around for almost 30 years, famous for its gonzo multi-genre setting. The original game gets a 4-stars (from me) for its setting, but a 2-stars for its rules. It is essentially a first-gen RPG with skills and crunchy mechanics slapped on. It was PAINFUL - unbalanced character classes (OCC), long and painful character creation process, stilted combat (some characters can hold their own, others can get *annihilated* in ONE shot), etc. Horrible Palladium house system that has NEVER been significantly modified since the early 1980s....Now enter Savage Worlds. Not a perfect set of rules, but fun, flexible and more balanced. Add to this simple and malleable system an interesting background, and you have a winner. Finally RIFTS that you can actually play *and* enjoy...

Crappy version of RIFTS for Losers...
THIS is NOT RIFTS, even in spirit. If you enjoy the OCCs from the PB version this version changes the OCCs in crappy versions unrelated to the original versions.Juicers, cannot to superhuman feats on a regular bases without dieing in one sesson.Cyber-knights, ugg they use Nanotechnology, not real psychic powers. And on and on...Basically each OCC is so different, They should have created there own setting. But they wanted to ride the coat tails of the Rifts™ setting. If They had renamed the OCCs, and made their own dimension traveling setting, this would be a good rpg. But because they use RIFTS™ brand name and OCCs, makes this version a CHEAP ASS lazy rpg version instead. My honest review. A big "0" as a RIFTS™ rpg.My honest review. If they bothered to create a new setting, names, etc...it would be higher, a "4" or "5" star rpg.BUT, its not original. So a "0" zero rating.
