Theraplay® – The Practitioner’s Guide (Theraplay® Books & Resources)

This book is a must have!! It is an amazing resource for anyone that is using Theraplay as part of their therapy practice. It is written in a very engaging manner by two very experienced clinicians. Every chapter is full of useful information and provides examples that are exactly the issues/challenges/joys that are experienced during Theraplay sessions with children and their caregivers. It is my go-to when I am feeling "stuck" or need inspiration. Thank you both for this writing this helpful and thorough guide.

This is a lively, personable and fascinating foray into the real-world practice of Theraplay. The stories and anecdotes centering around children and parents who are on the monumental journey to more secure attachments and better relationships is underscored by the authors' deep introspection on the complexities, grueling difficulty, and transcendent moments of the work they do. As an early childhood educator, I loved that this book keeps a deep respect for the lived experience of children and families at the center of all its narratives, and gives both current and prospective Theraplay practitioners a window into this wonderfully humanistic approach to healing.

This book is an essential and valuable resource for working with clients and families in ways that support connection, relationship, and regulation. It is written for the practitioner, discussed the intricacies, challenges, and opportunities that we face as therapists using this modality. It is an accessible resource that pulls out the most pertinent information and is engaging to read. While it includes the core principles and research it does not read like a textbook. I am in the middle of this book and as a Theraplay therapist in training, am finding it immensely helpful in bridging the theoretical knowledge and nuances with what is happening in the room relationally, instead of focusing on the "how to" of the activities. I so enjoy Dafna and Vivien's style, as their warmth and attunement easily flow through the pages.

This book goes beyond the basic steps and principles of Theraplay, and addresses nuances to more complex cases and situations. I loved the specific tools and resources, especially addressing different ages, family structures, and needs.
