Nice light palm router but have to be careful setting depth

I purchased this Router to replace my previous Porter Cable trim router (20+ years old). First take was the super accurate and super easy depth setting mechanism. The calibrated "dial in" micro adjuster is great and once set a quick snap of the toggle lock and you are good to go. I have not used the variable speed other than full speed, but I can foresee the use for it to slow the speed down for trimming laminates or machining plastic. The unit is small enough for one handed control and yet has plenty of power to machine full cutter diameter, 1/4" deep in red oak plywood making dado cuts. The size of the base plate is compact but still adequate to provide stability as you cut. The shape, with flats on each side of the base plate, make it very easy to use this router in a dado jig for instance.Dan EWisconsin

I like smaller size for smaller jobs or where a larger base will not fit. I like that I can fine tune the depth of the bit for routing. The one thing I noticed is there is no tension or click stop on the speed control. The vibration of cutting will cause the speed dial to move to a speed slower. I had to tape the dial at the speed I wanted.

A good working router, smooth and easy to use. I am used to an old Type 1 Porter Cable Trim Router - sort of the ancestor to this and a great work horse. This model has nicer features and is easier to use. It may be a little lighter which is a plus. It does fit my hand better. It took a minute to realize the upper clamps on the base lock onto the adjusting ring and make it easy to adjust the height. Works very well to adjust the bit height. If you have a bit that needs to be installed with the base on there isn't much room. Pretty tight space but still workable. With the base off bits are easy to install. My only complaint, which is common with trim routers, is the hole in the base does not accomodate larger bits. Perhaps they intend it as a trim router only and not for every 1/4 inch bit you may own. But I modified the base to a larger hole and now all the bits I own in the Yonica 70 piece set can run on the router. OK ... functionality over looks is tops. Mine came with a side fence that attaches easily and works well. Kept the router straight when adding a fluted bead on a 4 x 4 for a table leg. Only had it one day but first impressions are all positive.

I'm a woodworker and have several routers but I never wanted to spend the money on a trim router. I finally did and I'm really glad I got this one it works perfect.

This router is well balanced and easy and safe to use. It has very low vibration. So far, it's a very good tool.

Bought Porter cable mount bushing kit. Base plate not centered. Will have to redrill factory plate to center for correct operation.
