Minor difficulties with driver installation, but works as advertised. Great product.
My son bought this with money he received for Christmas to play a few games he has on Steam that were written for consoles and then ported to the PC platform. An older example would be Just Cause 2, but he has several newer games that work better with the Xbox controller than with the mouse and keyboard. I have no problem with throwing money at the internet and I've bought things direct from China, Taiwan, France, etc. wherever I can get a good deal on what I want, but Amazon and Newegg are my "go to" places for want it now purchases. Amazon got it to me in two days for free with Amazon Prime. This gadget is definitely "no frills." It's a standard USB 2.0 device with a 3.5 inch CD rom (the small one, not full size). The CD contains a few drivers and a manual of sorts, which was less than helpful. The drivers are out of date, but updated drivers are available on the Microsoft site and if you install the old drivers, they will update from the Microsoft drivers on their own. After my son gave up on getting it to work, he called me in for help and I wrested it with it for a while, which in people terms is about an hour.It turned out everything I needed to know was in this video on YouTube: watch?v=f_34-6-ctF4. Hint: The driver is NOT a Sound Video, and Game Controller, it's a Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class. Roughly 2 minutes after watching the video, the controller and the adapter were talking and it's worked great since then.My son has been really enjoying playing his PC games with the XBox controller and now he only plays with the controller for all games that have XBox controller support. Well worth the money for a gamer in your life, and next to no ass-pain if you take the time to research installing the drivers ahead of time.

It actually works!
Pros: Its works as it's supposed to after a little bit of setup. Once synced to controller, it never disconnects or has any problems! Pretty cheap compared to big name brands, or other devices that claim to provide the same function.Cons: Took a while to set up. I'll repost the steps that I followed to get it working.Other Thoughts: Didn't work when I plugged it into the front USB's on my pc. It works great on the back ones though, most likely because they are powered inputs.INSTRUCTIONS:1. Plug the USB converter into the computer. It will not be able to find the right driver.2. Right click on Computer3. Go to Properties4. Click on Device Manager5. Right click on the Unidentified Device6. Go to Properties7. Go to the Drive tab8. Click on "Update Driver"9. Click "Browse my computer for driver software"10. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"11. Select Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class12. Then select "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows"13. Agree to "Update Driver Warning"14. Once the driver is successfully installed, then go to Microsoft's website to download and install the software: [...]15. Reboot16. Now, you'll turn on your XBox controller, and click the tiny button on the front of the controller. Then click the connect button on the USB adapter. They should detect each other and you'll see a little message on your computer screen.17. Then when you tab the big Xbox button on the controller while on your Windows desktop, you'll see a small pop-up that will tell you the battery level of your controller. That's a good confirmation that everything is set up correctly!

Works Great with Windows 8.1 64 bit. 5 Minutes or less to Set Up. Satisfied Customer
Windows 8.1 (64 bit). The adapter works great for me. I just bought it a few days ago. It took me 5 minutes to get it installed. I put the disc in the drive in case I needed it, but then took the following steps:*Do not plug the adapter into a USB port yet.1) Go to your control panel. You can search apps for control panel. I have pinned it to my Start menu.2) Click Hardware and Sound.3) Click Device Manager in the Devices and Printers Category, the topmost category.4) Look at the screen and then plug the adapter into a USB port. You should be able to find an unknown device in the list. It will have an icon out to the left indicating their is a problem.5) Right click on the unknown device and choose Update Driver.6) Click "Browse my computer for driver software" the button to choose the driver.7) Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"8) The list of drivers may automatically show up. If so, scroll to the bottom of the list and choose the one at the very bottom "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 6.3.9600.16384 [8/21/2013]".**The list of drivers may not show up automatically, but instead you may receive a dialog box in which you have to identify the type of device. You should be choosing "Xbox 360 Peripherals, and then the list will pop up and you should find the above driver at the bottom of that list."9) Once it finishes, you can click "Complete," and don't worry about restarting unless you want to.10) The last step is to pair your device. Power on the controller by pressing the Xbox button in the middle of the controller, and it should start blinking. Press the connect button on the Receiver. Both should be blinking now. Last, press and hold the tiny connect button on top of the controller for a few seconds and release (just to the right of the LB button and to the left of the charging slot). The controller connect button LED should start circulating and then stop, and the LED should light up on the number 1.Done.I tested with a Portals 2, and it worked great!
