Fits where others don't
Purchased to fit into a small space left in our airing cupboard amongst the various flow and return pipes for heating and hot water. No other filter would fit, and having in-built the by-pass option meant it could be installed and serviced (just). The slip coupling provided with the filter makes a 150mm space just possible for installation, easy to fit for an amateur, easy to clean and easy to fill for cleaner or inhibitors without drain down or messing about in the loft with the header tank. Has already picked up iron filings and gunk from our system within 2 days of fitting. Time will tell how well it lasts, but feels like a well engineered product.

Easy to fit, well made, and good value.
As a plumber, you'd expect me to fit loads of central heating magnetic filters, but in fact I hardly ever have done as I don't do central heating these days. However, this one was for my most important customer to date, Mrs JC, so I agreed to make an exception! Our boiler is in an airing cupboard and although the cupboard's quite spacious, there was a surprisingly small amount of room for a filter on the return pipe, so I needed something a lot smaller than the usual Magnaclean. The Atom fitted the bill perfectly. It is certainly DIY-able, but if you have any doubt about what you're doing, I'd leave it to a plumber. One with an electric pipe freezer to avoid draining any of your system would be a good choice.Although it says you only need 115mm of pipe removing to fit it (it was actually 113mm, but let's not be pedantic), you do need a longer length of straight pipe to allow for the compression nut on the bottom and the slip coupling on the top. About 190mm is okay, and you'll probably get away with a bit less if pushed.Once you've got the water out of the pipe you're going to fit it in (I know, that's like Mr Haynes saying "remove engine, then simply..."), it really does only take minutes to get it all into place and tightened up. I used liquid PTFE on the threads of the slip coupling, but PTFE tape would do as well. Bleeding it was simple, and a clever spanner is included to use to service it once it's fitted. The canister is easy to remove and re-fit, you can even leave the heating running while you're doing it if you wish, and it's clearly a very well thought out, well made and user friendly piece of equipment. How well does it work? Well once the system had run up twice over 24 hours, I checked the canister for magnetite (or "black gunge", as it's normally called) and found a moderate amount. Hopefully, with a few more days running, more will start to dissolve and find its way to the filter. My system was last drained in 2014 and has had inhibitor in it ever since, so I didn't expect it to be too bad.All in all, if you're short of space for a filter, or simply on a fairly small central heating system (up to ten radiators is suggested), this is excellent and I'm very happy to recommend it to you.If this brief review has been of help, a click of the button below would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Impressive
Easy to install and a great fit in an area with limited access (sited beneath the boiler, on the return pipe, within the kitchen boiler cupboard). I checked it within half an hour of putting the heating back on after fitting it and was amazed at how much iron oxide sludge it had collected. Removal, cleaning and refitting is quick and easy, too. I am very impressed with the Atom and with the price and service from the seller.

Small but effective
This was perfect for our boiler where we had limited space available on the pipework to be able to fit this. It is maybe more suited to a smaller system but it works just fine on ours with 13 rads. It was a doddle to fit once the system was drained and I am impressed at how much it collects, even after we had put a cleaner through the system.
