Took a Gamble......and.......
IT PAID OFF!I suffer chronically from back pain, especially around the waist. And to make a long story short, after hefty expenses in mattresses and all kinds of sleeping paraphernalia, this stand and a Brazillian Style double hammock is the solution to my situation...so farTo give a little background, while vacationing a few month ago in Playa el Yaque, Isla Margarita, Venezuela, I observed this elderly couple practicing Tai-Chi near the beach. I found it so interesting and compelling that I kept watching them throughout the whole routine. It was a sight to be seen: the glide, the soft twisting of the body, arms and hands movement, leg raises, leg kicks, snaps.....it seemed so natural and so comfortable.Asking them for details on their workout seemed futile, for recognizing my situation, nothing was to be gained....so I thought. I kept on with my business of wandering around, sun "baking", and doing all the touristry stuff you can do during a day in the middle of the week. That evening, I was having a couple of drinks in a beach bar, when I looked to my side and there was the couple seating in a table not too far. I took the courage and treated the couple with their cocktail of choice, and a conversation ensued. It turned out, they both where practicing chiropractors in their country, Peru. As you may expect, I presented my situation, and they were kind enough to confide in me their sleeping habits, which they claim is common in Peru, country side. Sleeping in a Hammock!!!! They explained all the benefits of doing so, like alleviation of back problems, ability to sleep deeper, and how it could eventually rectify my ailment by minimizing on the pressure points, etc ... and how as a society they have been using it for centuries...!The next day, I Googled for information and guess what? The conclusions of the great majority of the material out there is ..It WORKS!!!!!Soon after returning to Virginia, I gave it a try. Through my research, the Algoma 15ft Russian Pine Wood Arc Hammock seemed like the most bang for the money. Weather effects was not a consideration for I am using it indoor. Just like advertised, the stand is easy to assemble, great construction and details. The finish is so-so, but it can be fixed with linseed or walnut oil treatment. And the looks, it seems like a piece of art work, which complements and enhances the room where I installed it.If you are buying, get a double hammock as a minimum if it is for yourself only. Better yet, get a triple additionally, so you do not leave you wife or husband out. Believe me, it is comfortable, and so far it has worked for both of us.Note: if you are a front sleeper, this is not for you.....and YES, the stand holds two people easily....over 300 pounds.I have been sleeping 5/7 in this hammock for the last three weeks, and I wish I could sue all the Chiropractos and medical doctors that have been treating my back problems. All I can say is, no matter what they tell me, if without the use of relaxers and other medicine the pain is not there, if I can get up in the morning with no pain, if I feel and am more flexible, my joints feel better, sleep better and uninterrupted, I can handle my daily workout better, etc....then it works! If in the future, if I start crumbling, and it is not working, I'll eat my words and post it here......Stand is Highly recommended for aesthetics, material, workmanship, portabilityUPDATE: 5-19-2016Still using the hammock to sleep, but not as frequent as before. But I must give credit to the hammock. When all hope was lost, the use of the hammock allowed my body to be rested, and the new attitude and motivation that resulted allowed me to follow up with the physical therapy. Now I am able to consistenly sleep on my memory foam bed and most of my back problems are basically gone, except for an occasional recurrence, mostly due to carelessness. The herniated disk in my lower back is not a problem anymore, and I am able to play 18 holes of golf at least once a week. I am able to sleep in hotel beds, something that was almost impossible before. And if, and when, the symptoms reappear I go back to the hammock for a few days, and it is back to normal. No medications, no complicated therapies. Like I said, if it work, it works....

Beautiful, monster-size hammock stand at a great price!
Algoma 15ft Russian Pine Wood Arc Hammock Stand, Russian Pine: I purchased this stand for my new Caribbean Rope Hammock (made by Caribbean Hammocks). I bought the hammock first since I wanted to make sure I ordered the right stand. The stand had to be wood since metal doesn’t withstand the humidity and salt air here on the east coast of Florida for more than a year or two. I soon realized that most wood hammock stands were pretty pricey and typically went for well over $400. Yikes! So for $325, I ordered this one and it arrived quickly and without any damage. It is a monster since it weighs about 80 pounds. All the parts, including heavy-duty eye bolts, clips and chains for attaching the hammock were included and the assembly instructions were clear enough to put it all together in about two hours. Since some of the larger wood parts are bulky/heavy, you may want some assistance during assembly and I highly recommend an 11/16” ratchet-style socket wrench (even though the parts include a couple of throw-away socket tools that are only marginally useful, in my opinion). The wood pieces are all about 3”x3” square, 4-ply laminated pine and the varnish/stain is just a little darker than the picture and has the orangish-hue of teak. I’ll probably give it a new coat of varnish in early spring after the stand has been outside for a few months. The assembled stand is 61” high and measures about 166” from eyebolt to eyebolt (173” end-to-end), so it should accommodate a good-sized hammock. The instructions say something about audible creaking/groaning when you first string your hammock and sit in it, but I didn’t hear a peep when I first tried it in the garage or even this weekend after moving it out to the yard.Time will tell as to how well this piece stands up to the elements but my bottom line is that this is a beautiful and well-designed/constructed hammock stand. Plus, you cant beat the price!

Shoul be stronger wood
At first it was nice looking and seemed well built. I used it for about a week. Then my wife and I used it together and it made a awfull creeping noise like it was cracking. We started looking around and saw some cracks and defects. I would go with a stronger wood.i have not yet called the company yet. I usually let my wife deal with that kind of stuff. But, now we are afraid to use it together. I weigh 180lbs and she weighs a lot less than me.

BEST OUT THERE
BEST OUT THERE!This hammock stand is, first of all, a beautiful piece of furniture! The wood is stained a rich reddish, brown. It is very well built and sturdy. You are going to have a very hard time tipping in this. I am a 61-year-old woman and I put this beast (saying it lovingly) together myself. The pieces are extremely heavy and cumbersome because of the arc of the wood. I held the arced piece in place by hoisting it on a chair, so it can be done, but I would definitely wait and have two people put it together. I'm just stubborn! Make sure all of the bolts are tightened one last time and you are good to go. I was able to put it together with just the tools that came in the box. No other tools were required.Once it was put together, it is a lot larger than I thought, but after you put it into place with the hammock on it, it is perfectly proportioned. There is plenty of chain to adjust it to the height and exactly how taut you want it. Clear your day, as once you get in it, you won't want to leave.I've searched for this piece for a long time. Most places want to charge around $80 for shipping. I was shocked when I realized there wasn't a shipping fee. It was a no-brainer! You will love it!
