Nice, durable badge holder for me
I have had great luck with these. The cord is a great length for me since it goes out to 36 inches, as I feel like 24 is a little to short. I've had both a black and red 5-pack that took me around 6-7 years to go through, but that includes giving a few away to colleagues. I mainly used them throughout the end of med school and a 5 year residency so I was using the retracting feature quite frequently throughout the hospital and it seemed to hold up. Also, I know a few other reviewers stated that having the combo carabiner/clip was a waste, but I actually loved it. I don't like using lanyards so it is much easier to clip the badge on my scrubs and use the carabiner to attach to a belt loop when I had to wear more formal attire so that the clip doesn't damage my belt or whatever. If the clip swiveled independently so that the ID badge wasn't sideways when I clipped it to a belt loop then I probably would have just used the clip, but since it doesn't I like the carabiner feature.

High quality and versatile badge reels.
I previously used a carabiner style bade reel that broke due to my own negligence. I chose these as a replacement because of the sturdy clip on the back. There are times when I don't have a belt loop to use and the clip will come in handy. Build quality is high - solid construction that should hold up in most any situation. The vinyl strap attaches easily to standard sized badge holes. They sell them in other colors, but I like the black ones.

Exactly What I'd expect
It was a little annoying that I could only find these as a 5-pack, when I really only needed one, but at $10 for 5, it wasn't the end of the world, and now I've got 4 more squirreled away for when this one wears out!In any case, it is a nice, light-duty plastic and metal clip with both a belt-clip and a carabiner-like hook suitable for hooking on belt loops, bag straps, etc.I'm a little worried that the cord itself appears to just be simple string and might break with time- kevlar cord or even braided metal would be an improvement there. However, I've been using one of these daily for 3 months now with no noticeable signs of wear, so maybe I'm just being paranoid. On a purely aesthetic note, it would be nice if the carabiner clip was reversed. When I hook this clip on a beltloop on my right hip, the natural motion is to clip it from the front, so that the clip's gate is toward the back. However, this means that the side with the silver belt clip faces out away from my body. I'd like the belt clip to be on the other side (or ideally, be reversible) so that the nice finished surface of the clip is the one that faces out when I wear it. Not a big deal, and it probably doesn't matter, but I thought it was worth a mention.

Quality control is a bit lacking.
Great, but the clip on the back can pop out easily. So listen for the sound of your badge of dropping on the floor.

Does not damage clothes; has lasted longer than any other ID reel I’ve used
I went through several ID badge reels for work before I purchased these. All of them broke either because the string snapped or the whole thing fell apart. They also all had clips with sharp teeth that would damage any clothing to which they were attached. I got this set of 5 carabiner reels so that I could clip the reel around my belt loop without damaging my clothes, and I figured that if one broke, I still had four that I could use.Well, after four months of use, the first reel is still going strong, and I do not think I will need the other four anytime soon. It has a sturdy construction that does not seem likely to fall apart like other reels I have used. My one small complaint is that the carabiner clip is a little stiff to open, but at least I know it will not fall off.

String bound on the wheel after a few uses
I purchased these to be used for a photo work Id. Just a plastic card with a picture. Very low weight . It only needs to be extended about 2 times per work day. So far I have used 2 of these devices from the package and each one stopped extending within 3 weeks. the string is separated and can be seen tangled up on the wheel. These do not get abused, not pulled out far and let go or played with in any way. I hold my iID to extend it as needed and keep hold until it is returned. I can not afford to lose my ID so i am careful. very disappointing quality on these.

Durable
I purchased this to hold my ski pass this season. The carabiner works great and held the pass onto my jacket no problem. The retractable cord worked great. It did not tangle and did not break. The snap on the plastic piece that went through my ski pass held up all season even with my kids using them. Durable and a great price to boot.

So far, works well and sturdy if used properly
These are not heavy duty. I use them on my VR cord management. Double them up in places. Treat it right and can serve your purpose. Will update if one fails.
