Desserted: Recipes and Tales from an Island Chocolatier

I bought this cookbook thinking it would be a nice addition to my forays as a personal chef; but I found it to be much more. The recipes are truly spectacular, and the step-by-step for tempering chocolate made me ready to leap into that mysterious world of shiny truffles.But what I didn't expect, and what I will cherish this cookbook for, is the beautiful, honest and sweet tales of a life lived on a tiny island ~ with nothing but a curious spirit, love, neighbors and a drive to do what makes you happy.It's what would happen if you combined Marcella Hazan's early Italian cookbooks (so full of life) and Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray Love"... only better.

This book is wonderful. The stories and introductions by Kate add an element to each recipe that makes me want to make them all. I like to read recipes but am not a "cook" by any means. These recipes all sound so delicious and Kate's instructions are so clear that I know I will be trying many of them myself. More importantly, I think I will be successful (well with some practice as also recommended by Kate).This is a beautifully written book with recipes that gave me a glimpse into a life across the country on a remote island that I now want to visit along with eating in Kate's Cafe.

Loved the book!

I read a review on this book that made it seem like an amazing chocolate book. I was expecting lush pictures and lots of recipes. Instead, the book arrived smaller than anticipated, and has plain paper pages instead of glossy pages. I think my expectations of the book were significantly different than they should have been because of the book review, so perhaps if I hadn't read the review I wouldn't think less of the book. It's merely ok and not great. The stories of island life are nice, but almost melancholy. Overall, I'm just disappointed.

Recipes are great and easy. Really enjoy this book.

I'm not much of a cook or baker but these were terrific and easy recipes. The chocolate pudding is divine and the chocolate peanut butter banana bars are wonderful. The book itself is lovely and tactile with brown satin trim and the stories add to the flavor. Great present!

This book has great recipes and heart warming stories. I made the orange scented chocolate cinnamon buns, they were so wonderful! Great book.

It was difficult to get information on the book. I thought it would have information on working with chocolate for candy making however there was very little information. The recipes are not what I would use.
