LSD: My problem child

An amazing autobiographical exploration and explanation of life, by an extraordinarily gifted and exceptionally humble chemist!
This book is downright incredible, from the actual practice of science to the insights on life. It contains many stories involving real people like Aldous Huxley, with whom Hoffman developed a close friendship. Many of the topics are magically real; Albert Hoffman dexterously paints an exceptionally realistic setting of Sandoz Laboratories, which is intimately invaded by something literally too strange to believe - the discovery of LSD-25, an entheogenic compound originally intended as an ecbolic drug to assist women labouring in childbirth, and which was accidentally found to have psychoactive properties (in quantities an order of magnitude LOWER than had ever been expected or experienced before in human history). Hoffman lovingly describes his highly-skilled laboratory work, and the ensuing adventures which propelled him to heights and depths of grandness and indignity he never truly expected of himself. I would expect that after reading this book many Hoffman fans will better-understand and so more enjoy the celebration of "Bicycle Day" on April 19th. An absolutely stunning, and eye-opening book, in which the author attempts to relate their knowledge and experience for everyone's benefit. Absolutely astounding, and fantastically eye-opening and informative.

A wonderful book.
Albert Hoffmann is incredibly humble and loved his profession as a chemist. This becomes incredibly apparent as you read even the first few chapters. Love what I have read so far and I'm excited to read further. Very short read.

Pioneer of hallucinogens discusses pros and cons
Albert Hoffman, the Swiss chemist who accidentally invented LSD -- and then tested it on himself in the first human LSD trial -- presents a fascinating account of the first acid trips, including quite readable descriptions of the chemistry involved and first-person accounts from the first acid pioneers. He also did groundbreaking research into the natural hallucinogens of Mexico and he provides insightful comparisons of LSD and mushrooms. Why "My Problem Child"? Because advocating LSD was not his trip -- he strongly believes LSD can be a beneficial way for one to get to know oneself and experience other worlds, but only if the user is mentally and physically prepared for the journey. Kids in the 60s getting drunk and dropping ten hits gave the drug a bad name, to say the least. This book does include some practical information on avoiding (or surviving) bad trips, as well. Excellent source for anyone on either side of the issue of hallucinogens and their relationship to human consciousness.

Delivers good knowledge about the subject
Recommended if you are seeking to know about LSD history and effects. The book is quite easy to read even if English is not your main language, and it’s mostly through Hoffmann’s life experiences and worldview about science and religion (and the role of sacred drugs through mankind history.
