Lyman 49th Edition Reloading Handbook

By all accounts this is one of the best reloading handbooks out there and I have no reason to doubt that. Along with detailed formulas for a large variety of calibers and loads, it has a detailed walk-through of the reloading process. Although much of this information is available online, having a single references is pretty handy. About my only complaint, and it is minor, is that even with many reloading formulas for popular calibers, there are still plenty of powders, butllets, etc., that are not covered. However, many reloaders seem to own more than one reference book and also rely on net sources, so that is no something unique to this particular manual. In short, I think any reloader would find value in having this as part of their library.

Need a reputable source to start reloading? Look no further! I am a new reloader who needed more than just load data. This book offers tips, tricks, and professional advice based on experience. In the first several pages you will find information on how to reload, what to watch out for, details on different cartridges, advice on components (cases, powder, primers, projectiles, etc), and why reloaders need certain tools. Before running a press the first time through, give this book a read. I highly recommend it! Then for the seasoned reloaders I can see how this book can offer advice and ideas for different load recipes. Definitely a great reference for the shelf.

I already had access to a Speer Manual, I needed a second source for cross referencing. This manual is great. Easy to understand, informative and accurate. A great tool for novices like myself. I read the 1st 10 chapters before tuning to the Data Section. A lot of the questions that had been un-answered for me were answered there. The Price is terrific. The Biggest Gun shop in my town uses this book as their store reference book.

the handbook contains a great introduction to reloading, speaks about the different types of powders, and bullets. and how to properly reload rifle ammo and handgun ammo in two separate chapters for these to types of ammo. the recipes seem to fit the bill for a new reloader like me. though still im assuming i should also pick up the lee modern reloading 2nd edition just to have more information.

This is a big manual and the first few chapters have some interesting information which I enjoyed reading. The load tables, in my opinion, could certainly have some additional references to other powders and bullets. For the 6 or 7 loads I was mainly interested in, there were limited powders and bullets listed. I can find as much, or more, pertinent information for those loads on the web, from experienced reloaders. That being the situation, I knocked off a star in my rating. I anticipated a better, more comprehensive manual than what I got. For as many printings as this 49th edition has had, you'd think they would have revised it by now to include more up to date bullet and powder choices and information. In my opinion, they need to revise it to a 50th edition and add more new information to include those newly available powder and bullet products. You'll most likely need more than this one manual, and some web information, to get what you need for your selected ammo reloading. If you are new to reloading you should have this book because in addition to having many pages of reloading data, it also walks you through the reloading process. Helping to make that process clearer, and more importantly, safer. If you have been reloading for a long time, you also probably already have this book, or at least have some of its previous versions because you need a reference for safe loading data. While this book has hundreds of different reloading combinations, it does not have every single one. That's ok, it has most of the popular ones and the ones it does not have can usually be found on the different component manufacturers websites. I print those out and add it to a folder that stays on my reloading bench. Since reloading and shooting can be inherently dangerous, I do not rely on a single source of information when I am working up a load. I have a few different books/sources and then compare the data each gives. Usually the data is similar so I feel more confident in my starting point. maybe I am overcautious, but I would hate to blow up a good barrel (or finger) because of a typo in a book.

I am just getting into reloading doing a lot of research and looking to see all I can about the art. Everyone I spoke with told me to get the 49th Ed. of Lyman Reloading Handbook, that it will give me a ton of information. Well it does and then some! The first few pages gives you basic information on a number of different kinds of loads, big on safety and easy to understand. I feel no mater what reloaded you may use, you can apply the information from this handbook to do just about everything out there. So for me it is a Must and 5 Stars!

For a beginning reloader I haven't once felt outgunned by the daunting prospect of teaching myself how to reload. Part of that comes from all the great Youtube videos, but this book has made everything approachable, understandable, and safe. I've had to make a few purchases that they don't quite mention through different stages (case length gauge, neck brushes) but in all this book has been a most excellent teacher. I especially like the individual attention spent to matching each bullet to powder to result for each cartridge covered in the book. It's made getting the right powder, primers, bullets, cases, etc., easy. I'm hooked. Now I just need to by a chronometer and I can start fine tuning. There's a few filler things in the book that seem silly, but overall, it's helped me get started on a great meditative practice that keeps my mind calm, thinking, and quiet. Bravo.

Awesome, a must have. This is the first thing you need when you think you want to reload. It's thick but mostly data the first part will tell you all about the different parts you need and will help you decide if you want the whole fancy case/bullet feeding progressive press or the single stage. In a few words like i said If you want to reload... Get this first.

This book was very helpful in giving details required to maintain a safe operating environment such as instruction on how to go about doing different types of reloads as well as information on the type ingredient required for different loads such powder and projectiles. Therefore I found it very good for a beginner such as myself on this topic.

The book is great. All the information I need & more. Easy to read & follow.But who ever packed it was useless as a packer.It got beat up bad in shipping.

If you are going to reload you can't have too many books! This was one of the cheaper ones, and is still my go to.
