Bugs Bunny: Fifty Years and Only One Grey Hare Paperback – January 1, 1991

Looks like we Baby Boomers relate to Bugs more than our grandkids. It is a nice romp for us. Very good quality picture book with text story.

If you grew up with Bugs Bunny cartoons, you need this book. It will help you remember scores of cartoons you forgot, where certain characters, scenes and silly phrases in your head came from and well, it’s cheaper than therapy. I grew up in the 70’s when it was apparently perfectly ok to watch cartoons all Saturday morning. And Bugs Bunny was the best of them all. My personal favorite scene was when he’s running from the big scary furry monster in the haunted house and all of the sudden he’s doing the monster’s hair and chatting about all the “innnnnnnteresting people” he’s met.Although there are tons of pictures, there is a book here, and a great story to tell. Like the multiple variety of influences in Bug’s creation – from clowns, vaudeville, Charlie Chaplin to very old African American and African folk legends like Br’er Rabbit and Zomo the Rabbit. All thrown together by multiple committee’s of silly men in the 1940’s trying to make people laugh in the movie theater cartoon prelude to the main show.The irony of course is that now Bugs is remembered long after those main show’s have been forgotten. But I wonder for how long. My kids didn’t grow up with Bugs. Doh - I knew I was forgetting something . . .

I admit it. I've never outgrown my love for Looney Tunes. Bugs was one of my faves from "Termite Terrace". You can't go wrong here!

Great history review of good old Bugs. By far, my favorite Looney Tunes character. worth the money.

If Bugs Bunny is your personal role model, as he is for me, you have to have this book. If not, you might want it anyway. Just as an idea of what to strive for.
