My mom has had bad insomnia for several years, more noticeably in the past year as she recovered from knee surgery that left her in a lot of pain even after her knee had "healed". She tried everything for sleep: melatonin, Ambien, a 1/2 glass of wine, herbal remedies, diets, low/no sugar, the list goes on and on. She already was eating healthy and exercising as much as could be expected, but she could not sleep. I got her DVDs and CDs from the library and she hated them all. Then I thought of this on 1/13/13, and now she sleeps!!!!!!She doesn't have that blissful perfect sleep that she wants, but now she dozes off and wakes up more rested - without medication for sleep! We've had this for 5 days and the change is definitely noticeable!The sounds are as listed: ocean, summer night, rain, thunder, white noise and brook."Ocean" is perfect, the dogs think the beach is in the bedroom and you think a surfer will walk in at any moment!"Summer Night" has cricket noises and sounds like riding Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland (without the music)"Rain" is by far the most relaxing.The "Thunder" one is odd as you would think thunder is a scary noise for some, but hey if it works for you use it!"White Noise" sounds just like a fan, a kind of noisy fan, but a fan."Brook" sounds bubbly and is my least favorite... it sounds like a brook but also like a faucet running.My mom listens to this very loud for some reason - I can hear it 2 rooms away - but she can sleep with it like that. I come in and turn it down when I go by her room and she doesn't wake up. The sound is unobtrusive even when it is loud, and when I do hear it I am usually reading or something and it is pretty comforting.The audio does not sound tinny at all and is very realistic. I was surprised at the sound quality especially when she had it turned up so loud, but it was very good.I bought this model because it specifically did not have the heartbeat sound - maybe good for kids who have not read Edgar Allan Poe, but not for us!Note: This one can play ALL NIGHT LONG!! I was afraid the timer feature was the only way to use it as with some other brands/models, but you just turn this on and let it run as long as you want. Thanks to the other reviewer who mentioned that feature.The unit is very lightweight and I can see how it can be very portable for trips. Not sure how long the batteries would last, so will probably use it with the adapter whenever we can. It is so lightweight, I do think that if you dropped it, it would probably break or crack, so be careful with it.Definitely worth the money!

Ocean sound is slightly different than I was expecting, but since I thought I'd hear crashing waves, instead it is a gentle sound. Just received it and will use it for the first time tonight. Maybe I will do a 2nd review?Day after using it, I just love the machine, and got a really good nights sleep using it, on the rain setting. I thought ocean would be the best, turned out it wasn't, it was the rain that put me to sleep. I really love this little machine!

For not unlike a lot of other people, I have trouble sleeping when it's completely 100% quiet in the room. During the summer months the air conditioner noise works pretty well but during the winter time I need something. Is there a lots of noise machines to choose from and I've tried a couple, including running an app on my phone which just drains battery.. I mean yes it works but also drains battery. Also drains battery. Out of all the ones I've tried this one I like the most. It's simple, doesn't have 25 or 30 choices of what kind of noise which you don't really need. There's an optional timer on it in case you want your noise to shut off after a certain length of time, or in my case just bypass that and leave it running all night. In addition to having a power cord, this one also has the ability to run off of batteries. This comes in really handy when the power goes out. I actually leave the batteries in mine all of the time because when the power goes go out while I'm sleeping this unit will just keep running as if there was no power interruption at all and I won't wake up. Oddly enough for me anyway, not only can I not fall asleep without some external repetitive noise going on, if the noise shuts off I'm awake. So yeah, I definitely recommend this.

I bought this as I didn't want to use my echo to play sleep sounds at night anymore. It feels very light, and somewhat cheap, it hasn't broken after falling off my nightstand several times! I have been using it for some time now, and it has been working for me.Using this device is fairly easy: You turn it on, select if you wish to have a timer to turn it off, and what sound you wish to listen. As to sound, it varies somewhat depending on what you want to listen to, but the speakers appear to be more low level, as sound is not as crisp as it could be. That said, it works, at least for me. When I use this device, it helps me fall to sleep quicker than without using it. I usually have it turned on all night, without using the timer.The timer, is one of my biggest issues with this device. While I have not used it, I wish it would have more than 1 hour sleep timer. I would prefer 2-4 hours maximum, as sometimes it can take me longer to sleep, or I wake up quite a bit, and hearing sleep sounds helps put me back to sleep.I do like that it has a battery powered option. It helps if you want to use this while camping, traveling, etc. I have not used it while it was on battery powered, so I cannot say how long the batteries will last.If you are looking for a device that is cheap and works, this fits the bill!

Helps drown out outside noise ( sirens, car alarms, people yelling or kids playing loudly) Apartment living there are frequently loud noises inside and outside and this sound machine has been a game changer: the adjustable volume is great. There are 6 different calming, soothing settings: White noise, ocean, rain, brook, summer night, and thunder. It is portable with options to put in batteries or to plug it into the wall. Timer setting is great. 10/10 recommend for people who need white noise.

I used this exact noise machine when I was a kid! I loved the sound of rain and it seems to help my toddler. It's very easy to assemble and use. Decent size and various sound options. I havent tried the battery but the cord is simple enough. The sound quality is also pretty good. Doesn't sound staticy

This is by far my favorite machine. It’s loud and gets the job done.
