Great Scanner, Worth the Premium Price
I use this scanner constantly and am very happy with it. I find that it works best on the 400dpi resolution / speed which is fine for me.The lower dpi is certainly faster but it is somewhat intolerant of paper that isn't perfect and tends to mash folded or crinkled paper into some strange and non-functional origami. It's great to be able to scan both sides of you original document(s) and the included software will go through optical character recognition and save your document(s) to a PDF. This simply means that you can search on words in your final document as the PDF has a list of all the words. For large documents like my list of things about my wife that drive me crazy, this feature is very handy as I can simply type "starting when she wakes up" in the search field and go directly to the respective page of my document. There are a few media types that I have found don't scan well. In particular, half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on wheat bread do not seem to feed as efficiently through the rollers as one might think. The upside is that I have come to realize that my 6 year old should likely pursue an avenue other than engineering for her collegiate aspirations. The software automatically recognizes misaligned media. Whether or not it actually does anything about such a scenario is hit or miss but is generally more dependable than my wife taking out the trash.Overall, I do like the scanner and feel it was a great purchase. One technical note; on older computers you may experience an issue with the computer reviving itself from an S1 sleep mode if you leave the scanner turned on. This means that if you have selected S3 or S1&S3 in your BIOS you should be fine. If you are my mother, nothing I just said makes any sense to you but I am happy with the sweater that you got for me for Christmas.

GREAT SCANNER
I do not often give feedback on products but in this case I must. I bought this scanner based on the reviews I read and expected greatness.....It exceeded my expectations.FIRST: This scanner is lighting FAST! There is no comparison between this scanner and a Multifunction scanner. This scanner scans so fast that you really do not believe it actually scanned until you see the scanned document on your computer. It also scans both sides at once - so if you are doing duplex scanning - there is no delay in scan time for scanning both sides.SECOND: It is exceptionally easy to set up and to use. I had it up and running in less than 5 mins. and have scanned hundreds of documents already.THIRD: It is feature rich. (a) It allows you to scan to pdf (and other formats but I mainly use pdf) in several quality modes, many formats (color gray scale....)...., (b) you can program the keys on the scanner so you do not have to scan via the computer and you can essentially set up one button scan capability, (c) It comes with OCR (d) you can do different levels of OCR / and scan processing. You can the OCR and document processing vs. speed settings to your liking...,I cannot think of any feature they left out.NUANCES: (a) It takes a second or two to communicate to with the computer to start each scan. It would be better if the scan setup was stored on the scanner so that the scan would start instantly after hitting the "SCAN" button. (b) the document storing and processing is done on the computer and it holds the scanner while this is done. So you have to wait for the computer to finish processing until you can scan again. It would be great if this had more internal memory so that it did not have to wait for the computer after scanning. For the price they should have included a few Gig of RAM to store the documents locally. If it had USB 3.0 that might improve things quite a bit. This could be a show stopper for many. But I have independent OCR software and to "independent post processing" most of the time. (c) The "Event Manager" allows you to set up 10 separate job settings on the scanner but they cannot be configured as completely as the SCAN interface software .... sometimes it is easier to just use the SCAN Interface Software. (d) It is not possible to rotate the 2nd page of a duplex scan. So if you have a landscape binder every other page will scan upside down. (e) a bit priceyBUT ALL IN ALL - THIS IS A GREAT SCANNER. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO A GOOD AMOUNT OF SCANNING - IT IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE!

Fast, but jams
Purchased this scanner to digitize records into our Electronic Health Records software. It is definitely FAST, but jams 75% of the time. This is particularly maddening because there is NO JAM RECOVERY built into the software, so you have to start over each time. Also maddening is the scan button on the unit. It is not very responsive, and must be pressed several times before it works. The features available for the scan button on the unit ARE LIMITED compared to what is available through the software suite. For example, you cannot skip blank pages if you use the scan button - for that you must initiate the scan by loading the software suite, selecting the options, and clicking scan. I can see no good reason for this, and consider it a design flaw.On the plus side, the times it did work it was quite fast. It comes with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (not the more recent Acrobat X) and can scan directly to PDF. The unit appears solidly built and not flimsy or easily breakable.
