Standing Desk Conversion Made Easy (and Sturdy!
I had been wanting to try a standing desk for a while now, but the thought of replacing my entire desk setup at my work office was daunting. Enter the VariDesk Pro Plus 30, a fantastic solution that converts my existing desk into a standing desk in seconds. It's sturdy, easy to use, and has made a noticeable difference in my workday comfort. Here's what I love about it: Effortless Transition: Going from sitting to standing is a breeze. The spring-assisted lift mechanism is smooth and requires minimal effort. I can adjust the height in seconds, finding the perfect position for both sitting and standing. Sturdy and Stable: Even at its highest setting, the VariDesk feels incredibly stable. There's no wobbling or shaking, even when I'm typing vigorously. This is crucial for someone like me who values a solid, distraction-free workspace. Spacious Work Surface: The two-tier design provides ample space for my laptop, mouse, and even a notebook. I appreciate having a dedicated space for my keyboard and mouse, which helps maintain good ergonomics. Improved Posture and Focus: Since using the VariDesk, I've noticed a significant improvement in my posture and focus. Being able to switch between sitting and standing throughout the day keeps me energized and helps prevent that afternoon slump. Easy Assembly (or Lack Thereof!): It arrived fully assembled and ready to go. I simply took it out of the box, placed it on my desk, and started using it. No complicated instructions or tools required. A Minor Quibble: While I'm delighted with the VariDesk overall, I echo a common critique I've seen in other reviews: the keyboard tray can feel cramped, especially if you have a larger keyboard or prefer more mouse space. This hasn't been a dealbreaker for me, but it's something to consider if you prioritize a lot of keyboard and mouse real estate. Overall: If you're looking for an easy and effective way to incorporate standing into your workday, the VariDesk Pro Plus 30 is an excellent choice. It's a well-made, user-friendly solution that has transformed my workspace and improved my overall well-being. Just be mindful of the keyboard tray size if you need a lot of space for your keyboard and mouse.

Excellent Desk, Very Pleased
I've been using this desk for about two weeks now, and I'm still trying to find a reasons why I shouldn't give it a 5/5. First of all, I've waited a long time before I deiced to dive into the stand up desk world. There is a lot of designs out there for about the same cost as this one. So, I'll tell you the things I don't like about it and the things I do like, and hope that this will help you decide. Also, I'd like to point out that I paired my desk with the Royal Anti-Fatigue Comfort Mat - Burgundy Color - 20 x 39". Cons: Just about the only thing that I could find that may be a turnoff for some is the fact that you are giving up an entire side of your desk for the VARIDESK. Just know that the desk will take up the entire surface and nothing will fit under it. Pros: The pros are easier and more obvious. I received this desk almost a week before estimated. The device came very well protected. I was able to unpack the VARIDESK and set it on my desk in about 10 minutes. Took another 15 minutes to set my monitors up, run all the cables, and clean up the cables with the bands that come with your desk. About the design: I like this design because I can fit both of my monitors without having to take off the standing arm from the monitors. I also find that having the keyboard and mouse surfaces at a lower elevation works out really well. The mouse has plenty of room to move around. The desk has "mouse space" on both sides, which would accommodate a lefty just as well. About the Stability: I find that I can securely rest the weight of my arms on it and will only slightly move. I noticed that the base has pre-drilled holes, which I suspect could be for additional anchorage to the desk if you so chose to use. I also find that I can take notes on the surface with no problem. About the Ease of Use: Moving from Stand to Sit position is a breeze, as it uses springs to help you move it up and down with very little effort. It actually takes more force to push the desk down into the Sit position. About the "Look": The finish of the desk is a smooth, glossy finish all around. All edges are rounded off all parts of it all solid black. In summary, this desk has been everything I expected: Sturdy, Easy to Use, Spacious, Beautiful, and no permanent installation or damage to my desk. Standing up gives me a change to break away from the neck/back fatigue that comes from sitting down all day. I find myself with a lot more energy and focus at the end of each day as well. My co-workers are very jealous and may soon join me.

GREAT Product!
I've been suffering from issues related to a disk on L5 pinching my sciatic nerve. Sitting for long periods makes the problem worse so my doctor recommended I get a sit/stand work station of some kind. Next I went to facilities where I work to find that if you work in an office, they'll provide a unit - complete with ergo eval, etc. Great until I found out that home office workers (i.e. me) don't receive this benefit. Next I spoke with one of our ergo experts (outside consultant) and he specifically recommended this Varidesk model. His opinion is that it is one of the best for the money. Here's why I'm a big fan: 1. Well packed. Came out of the box easily with no damage. 2. No assembly! Just remove packing material and put it on your work surface. 3. Very sturdy and well designed. The spring mechanism makes adjusting from sitting to standing simple and smooth. I often have a cup of hot coffee sitting on the stand when I adjust it - no worry of spilling because it moves so smoothly. 4. Lot's of positions. The unit easily 'freezes' at many heights. I'm 6'1" and it is plenty tall with more room to go up. 5. More work space! I compared this unit to the Ergotron WorkFit-S 33-341-200. My wife's company uses the Ergotron so I was able to go in after hours and play with one. While the Ergotron is a high-quality unit and seems to serve the purpose well, it pretty much has only enough work space to hold your keyboard and mouse. But this Varidesk model has room for a notebook (great for taking notes during calls), keyboard, mouse, and tons of additional room to spare - hence my hot coffee. The Ergotron also requires that you clamp it to the front of your desk. Simple enough. But for me that meant limitation in the front to back positioning. I like that the Varidesk can be placed anywhere on the desktop, allowing flexibility in front to back positioning. Varidesk is a winner. One of my favorite purchases in a while. BTW, my back feels WAY better these days. :-)

Best option for the price!
This is a great desk if you have the room for it on your desk and in your room. Does its job admirably. I would give it 5 stars if perfect, but it is not perfect. But it's really good and I'm going to stick with it, since I think the next best thing would be to build my own (and then it would probably be ugly), or buy one that costs into the thousands (too much for me right now) and moves up and down with a push of a button, and forces me to remove my current desk. PROS: Provides a large workspace on which I can fit two 24" monitors and my 15" laptop, with the setup a little cozy but workable. It gets me off of my tuckus, which is great. Back feels much better. I like the feeling of mobility when I'm working, and I don't have a choice but to stand up straight with monitor adjustment...when in a chair I always find myself slouching, and sometimes even leaning, without realizing it. The ergo mat helps with this, also. CONS: There is a little bit of monitor shake (but I'm finding that it doesn't bother me much). The worst oversight is the short extent of the mouse side platforms. My keyboard takes up the central area, and then the mouse goes on one of the wings. But it's not deep enough. This is a huge oversight for such a well designed desk in other regards. I'm having to take a stiff mouse pad and hang over the open space, which is working but not optimal. I'd probably give it 5 stars if this was not the case. I'm a little over 6'1", and I have to go to maximum desk height extension (on top of my desk height of 30", and I also have a 1" ergo mat) and then extend my main monitor up another 5" to get it to be tall enough for full ergonometric approval (at about eye level). The keyboard is at the perfect level for me (about 90 degree arm bend). If your monitors are not height-adjustable and you're my height, you're going to have to put something underneath them to reach ergonomic height. And coffee table books along with a laptop and 2 monitors might push the 45 lb. limit.

Standing desk that fits on top of any desk
Bought this for an employee who wanted to stand occasionally at her desk to work. She loves it and I may get one for me, too. It comes in a couple sizes. it does take up a lot of room on the desk, and our monitors sit on top, so even when you are sitting your monitors are 4-5" higher. Make sure that works for you. It is very easy to raise and lower the system. Seems very well made. Very sturdy and was easy to set up.

Does exactly what it claims
Before the review, here's some context. I am a software engineer and sit at a computer 9-10 hours a day and it takes a toll on my back by the end of the day. As work gets busier, I sit for longer periods without realizing it. I was in the market for a standing desk and there are a lot of options out there. I have a 23" monitor and a 19" monitor + docking station/keyboard/mouse. I ultimately decided to go with the Varidesk line because I have a desk which I really like and didn't want to get rid of it. It's nothing special, but it has drawers, a file cabinet and some shelving for my printer/desktop. The other standing desks on the market are just essentially tabletops with hydraulics that move up and down - so I'd have to then get a separate file cabinet or build a cabinet system. I also just wanted to plop my monitors on something that could easily alternate between standing and sitting - wasn't enthralled with buying monitor arms or extra accessories. Now onto the actual review...I really love this thing and it absolutely solves my desire to stand more. I find myself standing whenever I am on a call, getting antsy or sick of sitting. When I get tired, I sit. A high-quality anti-fatique mat is key. I'm able to fit my large docking station platform, router, speakers, 2 monitors mentioned up above and there's still some room in between them. Moving it up and down is extremely easy - it sometimes requires a bit of a push to make sure it locks into position. But they did a really good job of making this thing lift with ease - it really does work like the videos you see. You will read some reviews that talk about it being wobbly - it's not untrue and there is some wobble. The base itself is not wobbly, but as you extend it up it tends to be more susceptible to movement. It doesn't feel unstable in the least, but it does exist. It's probably no different than a crane/cherry picker going in the air and shaking a bit as it extends. As others mention, this thing is heavy. I actually see this as an advantage - I know that if I lean on it, it's still not going anywhere. Let's face it - you're going to put it on your desk and leave it there. I don't think people are transporting these around, so I don't really get the criticism on that. You'll also see people mention that it takes up the entire desk. This is not untrue - it's a big unit. However before my Varidesk, my equipment took up the majority of my desk anyway, so I didn't see any issue with this. If you just had a laptop which takes up no space and went to the Varidesk, I guess I can understand that argument. The only gripe I have is that I wish the keyboard tray were adjustable. It's probably 2 inches higher than I'm used to/would like. It's probably more ergonomically correct than I used to have, but it will take some time to adjust. It's not a huge deal so I didn't deduct any stars, but it would be pretty handy. Overall if you have a similar use case, I think you will like this. I hemmed and hawed over which one to get, but in the end I'm really glad I went with the Pro Plus 48.

Standing has fixed issues for me like tight/sore hips but introduced a sore knee
I was using one of the hacked up Ikea LACK tables as a standing desk at work and through 3 months I found out I needed to really balance sitting and standing. Standing has fixed issues for me like tight/sore hips but introduced a sore knee. Enter...the Varidesk. I really was not sure about purchasing this as it was a lot more expensive than my Ikea hack job but what a huge step up. With this desk I comfortably fit my two 19" wide screen monitors and I have no issues with the keyboard and mouse area. I use a regular full size keyboard and while it does not sit directly in the middle of the keyboard tray area I do not need it to. The mouse area fits my regular size mouse pad fine and that's all i ever need. Raising and lowering the Varidesk is super easy. Pull in each easy to use handle on the sides and pull up or push down. Like a manual car seat it has certain points where it locks in so beware of that. At full extension there is definitely some wobble but I won't use mine that high. People who are over say 5'10" might not like it (I am 5'8" and this is is just right at about 3/4 extension) but that is hard for me to say. All I can say if I'm not sure I'd like using this at full extension all the time. Build quality is top notch and you cannot beat just opening a box and being able to use a product. This is the single plus and, again, it's more than enough space for my two 19" widescreen monitors. If you don't mind the bases sitting off the edge a little bit (that's how my Ikea desk was) you could probably fit two larger monitors if you're careful raising/lowering it or depening on their base design. Moving forward with this product I will probably split the day 50/50 between sitting and standing and feel that was well worth the money.

I really like this adjustable standing desk.
I really like this adjustable standing desk. It is well built and very sturdy. It has an option, which would probably be a very wise decision and safest, to mount it with screws from the base to the desk or table it sits on. But I haven't yet and it's still pretty sturdy. But we live in earthquake territory and I feel it could fall over if the earthquake is moderate or stronger. It lifts up and lowers down easily. I bought the Pro Plus 48 which has plenty of space for my notebook computer in its docking station, plus a 24" monitor on either side of the docking station. And plenty of room for the keyboard and mouse/trackball devices on their separate shelf. And still room on the two surfaces for me to keep my business phone, my tea warming plate, etc. One thing I had to setup myself and I really wish they'd build into this from the factory, is cable management. You need to be smart about it. You have to allow enough cable length for the items to go up and down without pulling too tight, so there has to be at least about 2 o 3 feet of extra cable length. And where to route them is tricky because if you put them in the wrong places, they will get chopped off or severely pinched. So I wish they'd put some cable management built right in to take the guess work out of where to route the cables. In fact even better would be to build a electrical power socket strip right into the back underside, so you can plug electronics into that, and then just have one power cord to run down to the wall/floor, reducing the cables you have to run and that have to be routed and cabled with sufficient slack. I wish it was less expensive, but it was actually one of the most affordable options I found. Everything cheaper wasn't even close to the same function and quality. And many items that were comparable were much more expensive. So overall not too bad a price for what you're getting. As for using a standing desk in general, I find it is so much better for my health and posture than sitting all day. But you have to get a really really good floor mat. I chose this one and I've been very happy with it after 6 months: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8O122G/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_24 So I'd definitely recommend a buy on this Pro Plus 48 standing desk.
