Mostly Good, But Lacking In Important Ways
Looks great, and the author mostly knows what he's talking about. The info about the history of the series and some of the insights are interesting, but my dude here shows his hand by not giving DS2 the respect it deserves. From early on, it's clear that he doesn't like it as much as the others and while it shouldn't affect the book, it really does. The chapters on DS2 are incredibly lacking in substance and insight. Major areas of the game and characters are vaguely mentioned or fully ignored. I don't know if it's because the author dislikes DS2 so much, or if he's simply struggling with the material, as he often alludes to doing. It's a shame, really, because there's some real quality coverage of Demons and Dark Souls.Additionally, there's a _ton_ of typos and misspellings. Disappointing for a book that appears to have had so much care initially put into it. That being said, I'm still excited to read Vol. 2.

Behind the scenes book for Dark Souls fans
This book is great if you are a fan of the Dark Souls games. The book covers Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2 with chapters devoted to the creative process, the gameplay, the universe, the themes, the music, "decryption," and "legacy." You can be sure that the lore is legit because one of the prefaces is written by none other than the VaatiVidya (one of YouTube's authority figures regarding Souls game lore). The best section of the book, however, if you ask me, is the discussion of "Battle Mechanics" detailing the "feeling of weight" in combat, the left and right shoulder buttons of the controller each moving one arm of the player, how to manage stamina effectively, how to dodge attacks by rolling, etc. There's also some thematic black and white art introducing each of the chapters. Overall, it's a 300 page beautiful hardback book and even if you are even mildly interested in action-RPGs like Dark Souls I think that you will find that this is one of the finest books you could have on your gaming book shelf.

A faithful study, rumination, and analysis on the Souls series development. Filled with lore connections with mythos in our own world, truly a work of passion. While not filled with information that you cannot access else where this product is still a fantastic companion book for any souls Veteran or Newly Chosen Undead

For Hardcore Souls Fans
An incredible, in-depth and scholarly take on the first 3 Souls Games. Fascinating read, love this book. Between this and You Died by Keza MacDonald and Jason Killingsworth I’ve been in Souls-Heaven.

Great book, problematic shipping :/
So I have no problems with the actual book. I think its pretty fantastic and incredibly insightful for anyone who is interested in this fantastic game.However, the postage has been less than ideal (small cardboard envelope) which has left book pretty battered on arrival. The same can be said for the replacement copy I was issued, maybe some kind of protection around the book would stop it from getting damaged in transit?

Little damaged but still good
Was a little disappointed that the corners and edges had received damage and were slightly dented.The book itself is excellent quality and came wrapped in polythene. Despite the bumped corners and edges I'm really pleased with the purchase and would happily reccomend to other souls fans.

Inside The Dark
This was a superb read! For all Demon Souls and Dark Souls fans this wonderfully wriitten book goes into the fine nitty gritty of Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II. A great collectable with fascinating insights into the games development and reception by the gaming community which has made them such iconic classics.
