IMPRESSIVE
These speakers produce a rich open tone with lots of clarity. I'm using a 100 watt per channel Yamaha receiver with them and they really bring out musical detail, even at lower volume levels. I listen to CD's and FM radio, mostly 1960's rock, some classical and a little blues/jazz. The trebles are clear and natural without any shrillness, and the bass is tight with no muddiness. In a nutshell they produce music they way it should sound, natural, spacious and realistic. In fact I have heard various details in familiar songs that come through that i haven't noticed before. And I find no need for a sub woofer, for me the dual drivers bring out low frequencies just fine. Make sure you elevate these speakers on stands or a shelf so they're close to ear level. This really opens them up. The natural cherry finish is gorgeous and very rich looking. You won't be disappointed with these speakers.

Returned, Cheap, restocking fee
I bought these after reading reviews on the great cherry finish and terrific sound & returned them just as fast. As far as sound goes, I have to say that I was moving off Bose 901s because of a living room redecoration and wanted to move to a smaller size speaker, These Polk speakers are not the way to go -- no depth or richness at all. The cherry finish was cheap and I suspect that any little scratch would have started the paper curling up. Then, to top it off, of course, because I was honest about my unhappiness with the product (really, I should have just lied and said something didn't work, right?? - then we wonder why people are lying all the time) - had to pay nearly $70 to ship them back, AND an 18% restocking fee - cost me half of what I paid for them to return. Lessons learned: watch out for restocking fees on Amazon, don't believe all the reviews you read on Amazon and these speakers s**** !

A good purchase, especially for the price
Recently purchased to replace largeer speakers, good to excellent sound production, using primarily for LPs via Audio Technica turn table and vintage Onkyo amp. Very clean/clear, bass response is not as good as I'd hoped, but can boost that. Workmanship is excellent.

Speaker for its price
The workmanship is for its price, you can tell the cover is a vinyl veneer. Sound is very clean, but not solid. This speaker is good for attaching a subwoofer. Monitor45B alone sounds very weak although it has dual 5 1/4-inch speaker units that does not help its bass. The bottom line, it is good as part of the home theatre system, but not good for stereo system. It is better performed if adding a subwoofer.

I like 'em!
I decided to get these as an upgrade to my small "boxy" speakers that were included with my Onkyo CR-445 receiver. I'd like to thank the folks who answered the above question about the speakers' dimensions. These barely fit where I wanted them, but had I gone by the dimensions specified by Amazon, I would have missed out on these! These 150 watt speakers are practically overkill for my little 44 watt receiver, so I do have to crank up the volume a bit more so these speakers can start to breathe, but it is worth it! These speakers have a good amount of bass, so I had to adjust the low pass filter on my Polk Audio subwoofer to balance the lower frequencies out. These speakers don't have the highs that my stock speakers had, but, when I cranked it up, the stock speakers would get a bit shrill, while these simply sound fuller across all frequencies. My Polk Audio 'woofer has lasted roughly six years without any trouble at all, so I expect these will last too.

Sounds so good
To my ears at least. They are a little "boxy" and the enclosure could have been built better. But they really sound good and when paired with the Polk 15C center channel, Polk subwoofer, and some Polk 35b surround speakers. I can truly enjoy my music and movies at high and low volumes. I will agree with what I've read in several places. These speakers have a break in period. At first I was thinking "Hmmmmm, wonder if I should send them back". But I gave them time to break in and glad I did. Not perfect, but good enough for me to enjoy. The reason I went with all Polk was the speakers I had were "dated" (being kind to my old speakers here). I'm just a stickler for everything being matched. The 5 1/4" mid/bass speakers served well for me. I was tempted to get the 6" speakers but I don't see me needing to get "really" loud any time soon.
