Q: is the head shell removable

Yes, the head shell is easily removable and very solidly mounted when in place. I got a spare Denon headshell, part no. BK Dp300F from MCM Electonics for $36.34 including delivery so that I can have 2 different cartridges that are easily swapped out. Hope this helps, Jerry

Q: Does this have a phono preamp so I can connect to my NAD receiver?

Yes it does there is a slide switch accessible through a slot in the plinth that you can turn it off or on as you need. It is in the back side. You need to lift the mat to get to it.

Q: Why is there no ground cable to this unit??

I don't know how they technically solved this issue, but it works fine. There is no "humming" noise from the turntable, caused by lack of ground cable.

Q: i bought this turn table and upgraded cartridge to the ortofon 2M red, wow what a big difference that made . would using a separate pre amp be better

Using an outboard preamp can improve sound depending on which one you choose. It will provide a cleaner signal going into your amplifier or stereo. Try the Rega Fono Mini, a quality phono pre amp is your best choice vs their cheap, mass produced alternatives. Also, if you like the 2M, I’d recommend checking out the Sumiko Pearl. I’ve used Turntables as expensive as $5k, and I always use the pearl as my go-to cartridge.
