AmScope UBW500X02MP Digital 2MP USB Microscope with Endoscope Attachment, 5X-500X Magnification, 4X 3D Digital Zoom, Built-In Eight LED Light Source, Table Stand, Includes Software CD

As another person pointed out, this does not work with Windows 8. The driver loads when it is plugged in, but the software refuses to work. I did a compatibility check and it said it needed .NET installed. The version that comes on the CD is not compatible with Windows 8 and the Windows 8 version does not work with the software. There is no web link anywhere on the box or in the documentation. A web search led nowhere. In addition, the LED dimming light case fell off when I pulled it out of the box. Fortunately, I was able to return it to Amazon for a full refund the same day I got it. Unless you plan to use this with Windows 7 and never upgrade, don't bother ordering this.

This was a gift for my eight year old niece who is very much into science experiments. She loves it.

The Microscope works, but the software is out of date for windows 8 the Disk that comes with it is Void and there is no updater or web link to update the software.

I needed a portable microscope for insect identification. Unfortunately the software (thus the microscope) only works on older versions of windows. I cannot say how the product works since it didn't. I honestly didn't think to check on Windows compabilibty..it does say it in the product description. I just assumed we lived in a time where people kept the software for products in line with the computers being sold.

We returned this shortly after we received it, as we couldn't achieve very good resolution for the materials we were examining (geologic specimens; fossils). Also, items that were light-colored on a dark background (or vice-versa), and/or items that had highly reflective surfaces had very poor visibility (so... many fossils). If you really, really worked with it for a few minute with each specimen, you (sometimes, but not all the time) could get a passable image. But for education purposes (our main interest), that isn't a realistic time-frame.

This microscope is all around awesome. It's very good quality, easy to use, looks very nice and packs away in a small box. The only reason I am taking a star away from the product is because I wish is had a viewfinder on the scope. You can only look at it through and with the computer/camera. I guess I didn't quite understand that from the description. My 7 year old daughter is a science guru and loves this scope. I asked if she wanted a different kind so she could look through it and she said no, this one is great. It hooked up with her netbook with only a slight issue of it trying to use the web camera instead of the scope camera but we worked it out easily. If it works with a netbook it will work with any computer.

Totally dissatisfied. Stand was completely useless. It wobbled and wouldn't lock. With the wobbling mount, focusing is just about impossible. I sincerely doubt that the camera is 500X capable, and my laptop's built in camera has better resolution. The in-line dimming switch was not intact. It had come apart, or was never together. Instructions leave a lot to be desired. Considering returning item. Just not worth the price.

This works perfectly and I am finding it very useful for computer repairs and such. Thank you for a great product.
