Good morning! Thank you for contacting Armstrong Ceilings. Unfortunately, installing the tiles directly to the drywall is not recommended and will void the warranty. What you are experiencing from the apartment above is structure borne noise. No ceiling tile will help with that. We would recommend you talk to an acoustical consultant.

No. It’s like a crushed cardboard material. Like office ceiling tiles.
