Does this work on the Cricut mat?

The mats Cricut sells for use with their machines are very essential to the quality of the work and from what I understand need to be kept in the utmost condition. I’m uncertain if this is meant to be used on the mat, but rather just to cut material to size before using your mat to send it through the machine. I’m not 100% certain as the mats seem very durable, I just believe any damage to your mat at all, even minuscule indentations will effect the quality of your project.
