Let's Get Cracking!: A Branches Book (Kung Pow Chicken)

Great book for kids!
My son loved this series and I am sad there aren't more yet. He had a lot of trouble learning to read and these kept his attention long enough for him to comprehend and enjoy. The illustrations helped with that -- it is a cross between a children's book and a comic book for early readers. The puns are adorable!

Nothing objectionable here
Finally, a fun book for early readers with no bathroom humor, ugliness, disrespectful attitudes. Just a good laugh and lots of fun for children and their parents!

We will be buying the sequels!
I've never been a fan of kung pao chicken, but Kung Pow may change my mind.My four-year-old "all boy" son got it in his stocking this Christmas and we've had to read it a few times. KPC has enough action and ridiculousness to keep a child that age engaged without all the butt jokes. (I can read those on my own time). The kid who'd rather be tearing around playing zombie tag will be engaged. As a mom, I like how the archetypal mad scientist helps solve the problem without being campy or shoving the "YOU MUST LOVE STEM" meme down kids' throats.I look forward to more books from Cyndi Marko!

Mix between comic book and easy chapter book
It's a cute book. Sort of a mix between a comic book style and a more traditional early-reader chapter book. Just the right level for my 6 year old who can get through the slightly more advanced chapter books (like Magic Tree House), but doesn't always have the patience for them. He can get through this one in one sitting, but it's longer than most picture books and more entertaining than most of the "Step into Reading" type books. He's read it 3 times in 3 days!

I have been searching for books like this since the beginning of the school year
I have been searching for books like this since the beginning of the school year. My son struggles with reading, and doesn't like it. He was required to start reading chapter books in 2nd grade and I was having a hard time finding ones he both likes and can read well enough. This is the perfect transition book to chapter books. He also loves the Notebook of Doom series. Kung Pow Chicken is a much easier read though (and if I had found it first) I would have started him on this series before Notebook of Doom.

Good story; book falls apart
My daughter loved this book and wants the rest in the series. I just wish the book wouldn't fall apart the first time you read it.

Fun and encourages observation of details
Fun, fun, fun! Super cute. My 6-year old daughter read it over and over. I enjoyed that the clues of the mystery (who done it) were embedded in the busy pictures. It encourages my daughter to observe and examine the context.

Teacher and mom approved
I am a teacher and a mother of a 7 year old boy. This series of books is funny and at a ‘just right ‘ reading level for my son. Scholastic has done a great job with their Branches series of books that are geared toward 6-8 year olds.
