2018 Digital-To-Vinyl
This 120-gram 2018 vinyl release was mastered for vinyl by the talented Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. However, even someone with the talent of Bellman is handicapped when he has to work from the 44/16 CD-quality digital files, which this LP was sourced from. Never the greatest-sounding NY album, the recording seems somewhat two-dimensional and flat (exactly like the CD). It's not unlistenable, it's just not very different from my early-90s compact disc, without any of the added warmth and air of Young's earlier re-releases, which were recorded on analog tape. For what it's worth, the vinyl was totally silent, flat, and devoid of ANY surface noise whatsoever. This is a great album - the "three stars" are for the sound. BTW - the fourth side is an etching of the front-cover image.

Timeless
It's hard to believe it's been 23 years since the release of Harvest Moon, and 43 years since the 1972 release of Harvest. What makes Mr. Young a singular talent is his authenticity. I can't say that I like every single album he's ever recorded. But to listen to him return, 20 years after the Harvest release, to some of the sounds and themes of that landmark l.p., and to do it so beautifully, is pretty remarkable. I listen to Harvest and Harvest Moon frequently, and I listen to some of my other Young recordings frequently as well. They never sound old or dated. Their themes are timeless. They touch the soul.I can easily imagine people listening to Neil Young 200 to 300 years from now, just as people today listen to the giant music talents of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

One of Neil Young's best
I love ALL Neil Young's music but Harvest Moon is second to none. He is my favorite musician, with Bob Dylan a close second and Stevie Ray Vaughn following him. For all you fans, you probably already know this but for those of you who don't, you must buy this one. Take my highest recommendation and buy this one. I guarantee you'll love it.

Basking in the Twilight
Neil Young's manager once predicted that he would never be hotter than he was immediately following the release of " Harvest". Neil answered by telling him he would always burn, but never rust..... burning keeps you bright." Harvest Moon" reminds long time Young fans what they love about him in the first place; the gorgeous song writing. Of course the rowdy guitar sometimes takes center stage, as well as deference to the acoustic model, but this CD gives equal time to the vocal instrument paired with rolling melodies. The first two, " Legend..." and " Hank to Hendrix" have a similar tune, but the portraits are different. Young's writing creates a vivid picture of the everyday heroine in " Legend";he then proceeds to plead with the lady he's loved through many genres in " H to H"." War of Man" means more today than upon its release. We are in a literal war with the planet, one that escalates every day. Assaulting humanity, torturing the environment. Oh yeah, we are " Living With War."" Harvest Moon" is a beautiful love song; don't listen to the naysayers who tag it as middle aged drivel. In fact, most of these songs seem more genuine than other works, and with Neil Young that's saying a lot. Young always bears it all, but the songs featured here demonstrate an ability to continue to grow while reflecting on where you've been. That is the ultimate we can ask from a singer/songwriter.Neil Young observes and creates. With " Harvest Moon" he also mellows, painting a picture of fall in its finest form.

Great record! Terrible vinyl.
I tried 3 copies of this record to get one that’s playable!! The other 2 suffered from terrible distortion on side one. The one I retained pops and crackle like Rice Krispies but at least isn’t distorted! I thought Young cared about sound! This pressing would prove otherwise!! Get the CD!

Takes me back to another time!
Saw Neil's youtube video of the song Harvest Moon, and it took me back to another time, and I fell in love with it all over again, and ordered this immediately. Cool thing is, I just got my second '51 Chevy 'retirement' truck (my first was my very first truck over 30 years ago), and when I saw the video, there's a white one in the background outside of the bar the "early days" portion of the song. Cool. Love the cd, love the song, love Neil Young, and especially love the return to yesteryears feel of the song Harvest Moon.

Greater than the sum of its parts
I've always preferred Neil's traditional Ameicana sound to his heavy rock stuff. Harvest was a great album but always felt a little imbalanced with the rockier numbers towards the end. Harvest Moon is folk-country Neil from start to finish. I love it.
