Great for patio or hobby gardens.
Great tool for home gardeners. We reuse our pots and soil and this made it easy to break up all but the thickest clump of last years roots. If you use it vertically, at medium or slow speed, and have it at slow speed to remove it, there is reduced soil flinging. Tilt it and rev up the speed and dirt goes flying. I think it will work for many hobby gardeners, patio or small gardens. It has a shorter length than some others but has substantial weight and thickness to the auger. I have not tried it on dense tree roots.

Very worth the buy
I love this Auger drill bit. I bought it to help with digging holes to plant, flowers, bushes, etc. Our ground in Texas can be hard to dig up as it's hard and full of rocks. This auger did awesome. It's very thick and sturdy. I hit alot of rock and it did'nt break, bend or anything. Went right through the hard ground with ease. It's also good for just doing some cultivating. It was well worth buying and saved alot of time digging. So worth the buy.

Built tough!
Overall I'm EXTREMELY happy with this product. I've probably dug 100+ feet deep worth of usage on this tool, mostly through dirt with roots, and a little paint has rubbed off, but the rest of the auger itself is in perfect condition. Most of this digging with the auger was to loosen soil in our flowerbed. I'd tried to dig into this section of flowerbed with a flat and spade shovel and had no luck penetrating the soil due to the roots and actually hurt my wrist a bit trying to push into the soil using a shovel. There were recently rose bushes cut down (in the last week or two) so the root system was still there and strong, and this dug right through them easily. I had to stop a few times to unwrap some weeds, but that's a bonus - fewer roots and weeds to pull out of the soil by hand. When digging in soil that is NOT packed with tough roots, my 8 year old daughter (a tiny thing) could use this to dig in the dirt without a problem. I was expecting a LOT more resistance in just normal soil, but this plowed through it like butter when there are no roots to contend with. I actually had to stop and laugh at how easy and quick it was to dig in soil without roots. This would be great for planting bulbs, grass plugs like Zoysia and other types of plugs. I'm going to dig little holes in my yard and fill with good soil, put some Zoysia grass seed in place and create my own pseudo plugs from seed in bare patches in my yard.Tip - I was using an 18 volt battery operated drill. Depending on the power of your drill, you may want to hold the drill with the opposite hand. If roots get wrapped up around the auger, the power of the drill is going to cause the drill to spin in your hand and switching hands will make it easier on your hands when this happens. This will burn through a small battery quickly. I was using a 2 amp hour battery and the tough digging I did wasn't enough to fully drain the battery, but it was probably getting close. Not a fault of the auger, just general information. I created enough work loosening the soil with that one battery that it would probably recharge by the time I finished getting the plants and roots out of the loosened soil.I would recommend this to a friend...heck, this thing seems pretty tough so I'd loan it to a friend with no worries. :0)

Hard to use in clay dirt
In normal less compact dirt it works well. Once I got into the clay dirt it was quite difficult.

Product is terrible
Used this thing for ten minutes and the top that goes into the drill came out looks like they all they did was drive it in with no weld. I had to get it welded so it would stay together. The way the tip is made it won't start drilling into the ground you have to use excessive force, and in hard soil forget it it won't even try to drill the soil. And the time it took to be delivered was atroushis, almost a month for it to be delivered, I actually had forgot I ordered it. I guess that's what I get for ordering a Chinese piece of garbage. I GUESS WHAT I'M SAYING IS DON'T BUY THIS ITEM.

Perfect for small store bought plants.
I just used this this morning, planting a bunch of those plants in the small, store plastic pots from growers. It was perfect! Just the right size...drilled the hole with my small, battery operated driver, and the contents just slipped right on in the hole. Perfect depth, too. I have the long augurs, but they are so unweildy for small plantings. Also used it to plant some of these plants in pots...again, perfect. Even apartment dwellers should like this for their patio planting.

What an unexpected pleasure!
When I ordered this product, I wasn't really sure it would work in our hard clay soiled yard. Was I ever surprised! It's a little gem at very quickly barreling down into our almost impossible soil. After drilling into one spot, you can then move it around to open up a much larger hole if necessary. I'm now going to order one for our son and daughter. They will find it an invaluable tool for their burgeoning gardens. A wholehearted recommendation from me!

Saves a ton of time and a great deal.
Well made, just needed to sharpen the digging tangs.
