Finally!
The houses were the most baffling part of astrology for me because no one could explain them. Most teachers said "Treat them like the signs - first house is Aries" etc. Except there are already signs, so why duplicate with houses? I got the feeling that teachers and most authors never really knew what the houses were for either, passing on the same vague info to me. The cookbook method never worked well for me as I want to know why. Why is the second house money and values? How are they related? The 12th house as prisons and hospitals, how does that help most people? Finally the houses are explained as themselves, not as compared to signs. They have much more depth for me now. Charts I had memorized have come alive with rich new essences. I highly recommend this book because this area of astrology has been quickly mumbled through for far too long. YAY! I learned a lot. I especially liked the houses as the human life cycle. It gave them an interconnectedness sorely lacking.

Very Impressed
I read reviews and went back and forth on buying the book for a while. This writer has explained the houses in both ways I resonate with and in ways I never thought about before, and I love that. I love how much room all the houses get, it goes way beyond paragraphs and keywords. I am an astrologer myself but I always call myself a student since there is so much to learn, always. And I thought this would be a good book after all the research I did but it went beyond what I was expecting. I'm happy to have this in my astrology book library and recommend it.

Helpful with a subject not always addressed in depth. Good choice for a serious student.
This is not a new book (CR 1985) and takes a rather Jungian slant, but also takes the time to explain how the actual divisions are derived, various house systems and how the various interpretations of each house are actually related. He was not the first to look at the chart as an evolutionary trip, but since it is all there from the beginning and is not lived in chronological order, I sometimes disagreed with the developmental approach, but not enough to devalue the all-over clear and understandable content. He also covers some additional topics such as Nodes and Chiron, house related but clarifying as to use and possible meaning in the chart. I have other books by this author and find him very useful to go back to.

The Explanations- YEA!!!
Great book to buy, I'm not done yet, but I'm reading the 9th house now and if you understand conceptual thinking, this will definitely explain thing better than all the random listing description. This book tells you why and brings all the meaning together so as to develop and understanding of the houses. O yea and the seller shipped quickly!

Top Astrology Book on Houses
This book was recommended by an astrological colleague. It is one of the best astrology book purchases I have made lately. There is the most complete book on houses I have read, and I have several. There was much more information than I expected. Each house was examined from every possible perspective. I have been reading it constantly and as I do charts since I received it. I only wish I had it earlier!!! I would highly recommend it to every level of astrologer. No astrologer would be disappointed. I am very grateful for the addition of this book to my astrological library.

Well Written, Accessible, Greatest Reference on Astrological Houses
Lucidly written, well organized and highly informative analysis of the twelve houses and their interplay with the planets and signs. Great reference source on this subject. If I could only choose one on the houses, this would be the book.

linear look at the 12 houses that's useful to the novice and the professional alike
A+++ I'm about 1/2 way through with this book and it's already given me so much valuable insight to the system of houses... way beyond the cookbook style of relating to house structure. Sasportas provides an invaluable, linear look at the 12 houses that's useful to the novice and the professional alike.

Good book
I bought this book years ago so know it well and bought this copy because my old copy had literally fallen apart. If you are interested in astrology, whether seriously or just as a hobby, it is a very comprehensive insight into how it works, the myths behind it and the rules that govern it. It has been updated to include the latest thinking, is well set out and well written, and follows a logical system of chapters and sub-headings. It is professionally edited and produced of course so no typos or clunky prose. It is expensive and looking back at how much I paid for my old copy, its interesting to see how inflation has increased the price however, if you really want to increase your knowledge about astrology, this is just the sort of in-depth yet accessible book you need for your library.

Masterpiece!!!
Great introduction for me into the world of Astrology. I recently began studying my own birth chart and needed some more information on the subject. I had a thorough understanding of Sun signs but knew nothing of Houses. I was surprised to discover the importance of houses and how they map your life, but it is paramount to know the exact time of your birth (or as close as possible) as this is the key to your life's mystery. The Twelve Houses really creates a strong foundational knowledge of the planets, signs and houses and their respective hierarchy in their placements. The book doesn't go into aspects in depth but touches on possible multi-planetary influences. Aspects is however necessary in developing ones understanding of Astrology further. Aspects In Astrology: A Comprehensive Guide To Interpretation by Sue Tompkins is a great accompanying work to this book.

Dated and very Over Rated
I scanned the intro and read the first 4 houses in this book and had a look at my RS . The reason i bought it is I'm really struggling to get deeper insights of the 4th house-- water houses dynamics . This book offers all standard stuff and not argued well. I'm an Astrology researcher and have been digging for years into the roots of the system .My main criticism is the author argues his ideas for House meanings using 3 different criteria( logical associations , psychology and mythology ) and shifts from one to another whenever logical connections can't be made Plus plan old fudging with a platitude TO make the nexus in a lines of arguments .He quotes Liz Greene in the book so I assume they were friends and she writes the introduction . But this book is nowhere nearly well argued or as deep as Liz's books .
