Free delivery on qualified orders. Review: Amazing desertcart... Brilliant Book - Thank you desertcart for prompt delivery on day of release... That too in perfect condition... and it has one of the more impressive hardbound covers I've ever come across... As far as the book is concerned... having read Shantaram over a decade back, I was waiting for this sequel for quite a long time. And it has truly been worth the wait. The only other author who had a gap of over five years but came back with a bang was Greg Iles. Linbaba aka Shantaram continues from where he left and covers the next few years in the same alleys of South Mumbai - the relentless and murky underworld that is scarcely visible to the ordinary dweller of Mumbai. One gets a real close view of the violent thinking as well as the day to day lives, the perennial gang wars, the drug addiction, shady deals, black market transactions et al, and what makes this an exclusive read is the authenticity an Australian writer has been able to achieve. There are various struggles of the author, both internal as well as external, his exposition of the philosophy of love and the futility of hate, greed and violence - all of which are so inextricably linked with the narrative that one lives these lives alongside the author. That in itself is a monumental achievement. A masterpiece without doubt!!! Review: Satisfying and Enjoyable Read - Read about 500 pages of the book. So far the author has not disappointed me. Words that cling on to you like memories. You feel like you are with Lin. Wouldn't share much details about the book - read it for yourself. If you are a Shantaram fan, then I strongly suggest you read this, however don' t have biases or set expectations in your head. Sometimes, going with the flow is the best way to go about things!

A Philosophical Dive into Mumbai's Underbelly
While The Mountain Shadow reunites readers with familiar characters and the vibrant setting of Mumbai, it shifts focus from the action-driven narrative of its predecessor to a more introspective exploration of Lin's inner conflicts and philosophical musings. The novel delves into themes of love, redemption, and the search for meaning, offering a deeper, albeit slower-paced, continuation of Lin's story. Fans of Shantaram may find the sequel's tone and pacing different, but it provides a thoughtful extension of Lin's journey, rich with emotional depth and cultural insights.

at times the pages were tedious, and the writing seemed a bit forced
This book lacked the sheer spontaneity of it's predecessor. It was an ok read, at times the pages were tedious, and the writing seemed a bit forced. Shantaram was quite refreshing and quite easily overshadows The Mountain Shadow.

READ IT!
Edition was good. No problems with it. Book review : What more is left to be said? It's brilliant. Not the kind of brilliance that you'd expect in a gripping story. The kind you can expect in a compelling BOOK. I know that my statement seems contradictory. But, here's an explanation. The books in this series are not stories. I never read the stories in them. What concerned me was the message. The presence of a Soul within it. It speaks of Love, Life, and Destiny. It's not all story. A story can be in anything, say, a picture in a frame or a view outside your window. But, a book cannot be in anything else. Read it for the book, the friend, the teacher in it.

The book will give an ineffable joy to any bookworm who owns it.
First of all it's not the review of the novel, it's the review of the book. What I mean is that it's not a review of the story or the written piece, it's the review of the physicality of the book. I ordered the book and it was delivered to me in Assam. It was delivered to me a day late but it's not a big issue for me. The packaging was excellent and always. Being a hardback at such an affordable price it is definitely amazing. The paper quality is amazing. Though the book looks like a well preserved old book but it is one of the reasons that I feel in love with the book. I have read about 200 pages as of now and though it looks like the story is going to lead up to something exciting but I have an intuition that it won't be somewhere where I would like it to go. I still love the writer's brutal honesty and I am sure there is always something that we can find in his book, be it Shantaram it the mountain shadow, that relates to us in such an intimate way that it gives you a clearer picture about yourself than hours of introspection would. The gives words to the feelings that we always had but couldn't explain it and that is something that I admire about him the ability to explain something that was earlier ineffable to the reader.

Delivery by amazon was amazing as always
Waited almost a decade. Lin had always been on the back of my mind, and as I turned the first leaf after awing that magnificent cover, the feeling of catching up with a long lost friend overwhelmed me. Post over 800 pages: I had to reduce my rating by a star. Dear GRD, did you ever have a retrospection and thought to yourself, so to speak, that shantaram was perhaps my best work? because after reading approx 800 pages of TMS i certainly did. I kept waiting for the story to pick up, but it never did, waited for Lin to get out of his head and connect me to people, nope never happened. At some point, it was difficult to tell whether I was reading a book or a tumblr blog, seriously some lines were cheesy enough to give a baconator competition. I would not want to completely shoot it down because quite honeslty i went with it till the end because of love and faith ( both of which seems to be fading) In the first book shantaram was someone through whose eyes i could see the world unbiased, but my my Lin when did you become so overwhelming. Why did i have to see so many characters through your stereotypes, and was it just me or were you really full of yourself so many times in the book? There are two more books in the pipeline, but i sure won't be pre ordering them. As for Shantaram, you should have stayed away from the mountain shadow of bollywood romanticism. Let's just say [you] broke our heart in the right way, if you know what we mean. Delivery by amazon was amazing as always. 5 star for the seller 3 for the book

This book was an amazing sequel to shantaram. Following Lin and some of the characters in Shantaram, it's a story of crime, revenge and redemption in Bombay in the 1980s. Lin journeys to the mountain where he finds wisdom and friendship in a spiritual philosopher and teacher. This book explores deep philosophical ideas and paints them in a beautiful picture, I felt engaged and understood many of the ideas due to its excellent style of writing. Amazing characters with interesting stories and a fast-paced plot made this book un-put-downable! would definitley reccomend both mountain shadow and shantaram for a life chnaging read.

I could not put this book down. It is an amazing work of fiction based on the personal story of the author. It is the follow up book to his first wonderful text, Shantaram. Both are over 900 pages each and totally absorbing and inspiring. This writer is also a poet, polyglot, and humorist. He is able to laugh about his various clashes with the caste system, corruption, and a deep love. At the same time he is a critic and interpreter of daily conflict and the meaning of love. As you read this book, you come to care about every character in their madness and eccentricity and want to be there in Bombay in the 1980’s. The author loves India and India is actually a key character since it is by living and loving in Bombay he comes to resolve the major conflict in his life. I will keep this book to reread it with gratitude for so skilled a story and by extension so skilled a writer.
