Soil humidity and germination rate
Had to give this a try since I loved these Charapita peppers while travelling.Conditions:In a very dry climate seed started pods were helpful, and tested three still types found at local gardening center: 70%coco/perlite, cactus premix, and potting premix. Kept at about 70F, high humidity, artificial pod light following winter day/night cycles for north-northwest U.S. for 2 weeks.Coco and the cactus mix both had about 63% germination rate.Potting soil about 25% germination and it's really late (barely breaking ground 2weeks in while others are 1-2" tall)Suspect people having germination problems need to check their soil acidity to more closely match the Amazon. Warmer climates would likely have better germination rates as well, I just didn't want to add any heaters to my indoor greenhouse or heat the house more. Thank you Sherwood Seeds, can't wait to taste these guys when they grow up!! Wish you had the yellow ones available too!
