Paylak Watch Case Opener

I was concerned about buying this tool as some reviewers said the quality was poor, but for an amateur (which I am) this device seems very well made. The machining appears to be solid, the parts have held up and don't appear to be inferior metal/hardness. The device arrived thoroughly oiled.And as someone with reasonable mechanical aptitude but no experience with watches, I found it dead simple to set this device up to open several watches that I have had laying around waiting for batteries. Adjusting the device to fit each watch back was easy. You have to be careful, as other reviewers have pointed out, not to scratch the back of the watch, and also not to accidentally poke yourself in the hand if the device slips while using it, but that's true for many hand tools, so caveat user.I'm totally satisfied with the price and quality of this device. For the price of a single watch battery replacement at a store, I can now "fish for myself" and replace batteries on all my watches that have screw-on back plates.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the box and found the wooden case. Although the one I have differs from the picture. The one I received has a magnetic closure and not the clips shown on the picture. I actually like this better. It's very solid and doesn't appear that it would open accidentally.The wrench itself is clearly high quality. It's very easy to use and the adjustments work well. The only complaint that I would give is that they appeared to have forgotten to wash the wrench after it was milled. It was literally dripping in machine oil. I would guess from the lathe or milling machine they used to construct it.Overall, I'm pleased with the value and construction. It was better then I had expected.I would like to add, do not even attempt to open a nice watch with this tool (or any case opener) without a quality case holder. You risk scratching or damaging the watch case.

I received the tool in perfect condition. Looks good and sturdy and a great wooden storage box. However, it does not come with instructions. Beware, if you're a beginner.

I can't give it 5 stars, it's not perfect.I have a lot of watch tools, and this is a nice one. The case is nice, and it works as it should.But, again, it's not perfect. The pins don't stay in, making it harder to use (you have to use it upside down, and the pins don't lock in). And there should be instructions for those who don't know exactly how to use it. The little half-sheet that is included is all but useless.But it's a great deal for the price. Easily opens the notch-back cases I use it on.

CHANGING A WATCH BATTERY IN THE US, IS A SIMPLEMATTER OF VISITING YOUR LOCAL JEWELER AND CHANGED WHILE YOU WAIT. SINCE I NO LONGER HAVE ACCESSTO JEWELERS WHO SOLVE YOUR ISSUE ON THE SPOT, THIS ITEM IS PRICLESS.IT IS EASY TO USE TO REMOVE THE BACK OF WATERPROOF WATCHES AND ALLOWING YOU TO CHANGE YOUR OWN BATTERY.A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE WHO OWNS MORE THAN ONE BATTERY POWERED WATERPROOF WATCH

No more paying for battery changes. Easy to use tool. I read a review mentioning that the tips do not hold in place, THIS IS NOT CORRECT, if you push them into their slot they will snap and stay in place (make sure they go all the way in, you'll have to pull them to remove them) and the tool can easily be used upside down.The wooden case is practical and sleek.Great buy for the price.

I find this tool to be rather useless in most cases. It can really open only one type of watch back. The design may be "conceptually" right, but it really is not workable. I have at least a dozen watches,that belong to the family members, that needs battery change but I could only open 1 of them. Plus if you have an expensive watch, do not use this tool. It can scratch up the sides and the back. At least this has been my experience.I am not very impressed. Thing is I don't know what else is out there that I can use. The construction of the tool seems to be robust, but it really does not work or work only for very specific watches.

Not that good... too weak, and not a precision fit for the attachment, without affixing tape to secure.John Lipscomb
