This is a great story about a couple adopting a baby girl from South America. I adopted an older boy, five but now is six, from Ethiopia and he loves this book, though the story is a bit different than his. I think part of it is just seeing that families can be made different ways and it opens up the door to talking about adoption. I was surprised how much he talked while reading this book. He noticed the different skin colors. He asked if we had to wait a long time for him and did everyone ask when he was coming. He spoke of the plane ride. He asked questions about the family in the book. We of course are open about adoption and have talked to him about much of it before, but this book just really triggered him asking questions about his adoption, rather than me talking about it to him. Even if your adoption does match the story, I still think it's worth every penny for kids to see that everyone has their own story about their family. The artwork is colorful and fun, which we both love. The story itself is nicely done and I wouldn't think be offensive to anyone.

We got a few copies to introduce our (under 5) nieces and nephews to adoption. Book was super cute and helpful!

beautifully and sensitively written - a great good to talk to your children about adoption (especially if you had to travel far to adopt your child)
