An absolutely invaluable tool when dealing with Asperger’s Syndrome
What is it about Pearls Before Swine? Irreverent. Poorly-drawn. Often ridiculous. Too many puns. Sometimes not even funny. And yet this is one of the best comic strips still being produced. When it hits its mark, it really hits its mark. Pig and Rat are standouts. I don’t much care for any storyline that involves the croc family. My daughter absolutely loves loves loves Pearl Before Swine, which has become disproportionately important in our lives. My daughter is on the autism spectrum, and when she has an Aspie Meltdown that she just can not recover from, I hand her one of these books. The transformation is immediate, and within a minute or two she is in her room howling with laughter instead of being in the throes of a meltdown. Distraction is a wonderful thing. And no, she is not manipulating me. This is literally my very last line of defense, the last resort I turn to when all else has failed. No other book has ever had this effect. Just Pearls Before Swine. As you can imagine, I have bought EVERY Pearls Before Swine book. We are down to our last two, but fortunately now the Aspie Meltdowns are few and far between. Still, Stephan Pastis, hurry and churn out more, please! :)

A fun read
I think the comics in this treasury were a little weaker than the others. However, I still enjoyed this a lot - the lemmings and the penguins were introduced and also kept on as recurring characters, and it was fun to see the storyline where the main cast all wound up in prison. And of course, terrible puns.

When all else fails, kill cute things!
There are not that many comics out there these days that are truly funny. So many of the older strips are reruns from decades ago, or their authors retired far too early (you know who I am talking about!), and many of the current ones are just... not... funny... This one however, is my favorite strip out of the current market. I LOVE Mr. Pastis' treasuries, because he comments throughout and it is fascinating to see a little of how his mind works. I own all of his books and can hardly wait for the new ones to come out. Thank you Stephan Pastis!

Funniest guy!!
This book is great! Ordered for my 15 year old who reads every Stephan Pastis strip he can get his hands on. Not disappointed. This was actually a used book that said it was in good shape. I'd say it was in fair to poor shape, but my son didn't care. He loved it anyhow! Always saying, "read this one" to me.

Funny!
Always great for a laugh. One of my favorite comics for its frank, unapologetic take on real world crap. Also, I love that Rat is an ass and Pig is so stupid. Goat is a nice balance in that he is actually a decent "guy."I like the humor and that the cartoonist doesn't take himself seriously.

Very funny, buy this book
Hysterically funny, this is Stephan at his best. We saw him at a signing and sit-down / stand-up routine for this book where he was truly as amusing as you expect him to be. The book purchased at the signing never did get signed (lines well over an hour long and I am not able to stand) but we all enjoyed the afternoon with Mr. Pastis so much that I bought another copy to help him make his alimony payments.

Classic Pastis
This is classic Stephen Pastis. Rat is his usual despicable self, Pig is still the wide-eyed innocent, zebra is still avoiding the crocodiles most successfully, goat is still his erudite self, in a mix of various and sundry visitors. "Pearls" is the one rather dark comic that I happen to like, being a bit of a cynic and pessimist myself, but then with this outlook I'm rarely disappointed.

pearls
As usual, Stephan manages to get to the heart of all our deepest desires ( and skewers them completely ) I have been readin his stuff since he was only online many years ago. I was the first fan to write to the SF Chronicle on his behalf...

It's a pearls book. You know what you're going ...
It's a pearls book. You know what you're going to get. All the normal characters are present, Rat is as cynical as usual, pig as naive as he always is, and the crocodiles, well they are never going to change.Still one of the funniest, darkest comic strips going.

Still some great 'on the mark' satire but not quite as funny
Been a Pearls fan since day one and own all of his compilations/treasuries. I didn't rank this as high as his other books as I'm just not laughing as much. Still some great 'on the mark' satire but not quite as funny.

Always look forward to these treasuries' releases.
Not Stephan Pastis' best treasury but still well worth the money. I do love this comic strip. Sometimes I think the artist's commentary is the best part of these books. I certainly laugh out loud at them sometimes.
