I smell Goood!!

So here's another attempt to write some words about one of the most known and relevant contemporary fragrances - it's like trying to review a can of Coke, by saying something that hasn't been expressed before. Fairly impossible. Anyway, there you go... Layton, crafted by perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani (also behind Althair and Percival...) and launched in 2016. It's almost 10 years old, and it stands as a testament to the brand's dedication to blending classic elegance with contemporary flair. Turns of PdM is not just a niche clone house hyped by refined marketing, as many think. Among the house's offerings, Layton not only shines brightly as one of the best fragrances in circulation, but also holds a cherished spot in my personal collection. It is one of my all-time favorites, even if Pegasus (Exclusif) aligns a bit better to my personality. Scent profile wise, the introduction is a vibrant blend of crisp apple, soothing lavender, zesty bergamot, and a hint of mandarin orange. If you read these notes while you're smelling it, you will be able to isolate them... a sign of quality ingredients and blending. This combination offers an immediate freshness that's both invigorating and elegant. As the fragrance unfolds, floral nuances emerge with a light mix of florals: geranium, violet, and jasmine. These smell rather genderless, adding depth and a touch of sophistication. The foundation is a blend of vanilla, cardamom, sandalwood, pepper, guaiac wood, and patchouli, providing warmth and longevity. Layton boasts above average longevity, lasting throughout the day and into the evening. I'd say 8-10 hours, depending on the usual factor. Its projection is assertive yet not overpowering, making its presence known without overwhelming the senses. While Layton exudes a certain elegance, its balanced composition, without overpowering notes, allows for versatility. Whether attending a formal event or enjoying a casual outing, this fragrance adapts gracefully, embodying both presence and subtlety. Absolutely office safe, if not oversprayed. In the vast realm of perfumery, Layton distinguishes itself as a fragrance that marries tradition with modernity - pretty much PdM's mission. Its intricate blend of notes created a contemporary staple which, as well all know, has been often replicated in many forms. To me, the original still stands out and I own a full bottle of it.
