I'm already of the opinion that this book is not only the best book on C# for Unity
While I'm only about 1/4 the way through, I'm already of the opinion that this book is not only the best book on C# for Unity, it's one of the best books I've seen on scripting/programming. I think this is because of the author's background as an artist. He writes so as to make things understandable to "visual" people, artists who just want to make a Unity project without having to depend on the mercies of a programmer. The explanations are all extremely clear, the exercises have far more visual feedback than the usual "do a lot of typing and you'll see that sometimes a lowercase 'a' appears in the debug log and other times it's an uppercase 'A'...." type of tedious introductory.

A very good book for someone that is comfortable in Java and thinks they understand C#. I appreciate the separation of difficulty in language levels and the view point from someone who started on the art side and worked their way back to programming.

A glorified reference book.
The author promises in his introduction that programming should be fun and "making games" is the way to learn. Then he proceeds to explain every single capability that C# offers with very abstract and unnecessary examples. That's it. This is the entire book. You will rarely get an aha moment to connect any of the content to the process of actual game creation. There is an insane amount of repetition and bouncing from one concept to another which made a vicious cycle to give a grade A headache. It feels like the author just crammed as much as he could and edited nothing out. The logic of the sentence structure is, ironically to the purpose of the book, a great mess.As other reviewers have mentioned, the Unity content is minimal and useless. Unity is used as a mask to provide a selling point to this book.Save yourself the headache and find a simple reference website which will have the same stuff without all that cumbersome explanation. Plus it's searchable. Don't be baited!

Fantastic reference and Learning Guide
This is the best resource I've found to learn programming with Unity 3D. My only complaint is that I wish there was more hands-on learning than theory. I'm only halfway through the book, so hopefully that picks up. This book will definitely be an excellent reference. Tons of examples and the author is good at communicating how things work.

Three Stars
Too much unimportant explanation.

Great book.
Great book. It will teach you coding. It's not going to hold your hand and teach you how to make a game from beginning to end. it's going to teach you how to code and give objects in games behaviors. Half way through the book and I can make a script for a character to walk, move the mouse camera, control colors - arrays, loops etc..It's a book but it beats a youtube video that feeds you a script that works but gives you know idea why. It's an older book but it's all still relevant info. Thanks Alex Okita. It's a good book.

An Easily Digested Resource on Game Programming.
This book is very easy to recommend for any beginning programmers who use C# or Unity. Both the writing and layout are incredibly clear. The contents of the book covers everything from detailed methods to philosophical discussions on why things are the way they are.
