Very good design and operating logic
I was looking for a phone with these features: speaker phone, 2.5 mm headset jack, chorded to work when the power was off, and anything but tiny buttons, I did not need caller ID or an answering machine as my other cordless phones take care of that. A couple of years ago, when looking for a phone with the same features, I decided to purchase the Panasonic KX-TS105. It worked well for awhile, then got a buzz in the handset, then the feature buttons started acting up one by one, specifically, it became difficult to end a call without picking up the handset and setting it back on the hook, then hoping the call would end when the headset was plugged in.So a couple of months ago, I gave up and decided to buy another phone. I could only hope that I would have better luck with a different brand. This Cortelco phone looked good, but after unboxing it, feeling it and plugging it in, I can say it is the real deal. I am very pleased. The buttons press easily and precisely, the sound on the speakerphone is really good, likewise for the handset and headset. And the caller ID does come in handy since I use this phone in my home office when sitting at the desk and making many calls while working on a laptop. The design, button layout and logic for phone operation is excellent, very well thought-out. I could be wrong, but this feels and acts like a high quality product, one that won’t start crapping out after a few months of service. I highly recommend.

Good value if using external headset
I purchased this phone for my home office, I use it with the Obi100 VoIP adapter and a Panasonic TCA400 wired headset. After two weeks of typical use (5-10 calls per day, about 2 hours talk time per day) I'm very satisfied with the phone and its performance with the aforementioned peripherals. As with any speakerphone, listeners on the other end have commented that I "sound far away" if I get more than a foot away from the microphone (which is intelligently located near the bottom of the phone, closest to the user). I've used office speaker phones costing $300+ and they seem to perform marginally better, but not well enough to justify such a huge difference in price in my opinion. The option to connect a headset to the phone for hands-free use is absolutely the best feature of this unit. Call quality using the headset is very good.Pros: volume and clarity are great for a unit at this price, speakerphone and wired headset can be used simultaneously (haven't found a need for this yet, but it's an interesting feature), display and speed-dial buttons are reasonably easy to use - once you get the hang of them.Cons: only one, which is very minor, the AA batteries that shipped with the unit showed signs of leaking while still in the package. I tossed them and installed name-brand batteries to make sure the memory is retained after a power outage - the new batteries and phone memory are working fine after disconnecting power several times to test memory retention.Update: 2016-10-06, I'm changing the rating from 5 stars to 4 stars because the handset began emitting a loud buzzing sound every time it is lifted from the phone base. The noise is so loud it makes the corded handset unusable. The speaker phone still works fine and I primarily use the phone along with an external, corded headset. Aside from not being able to use the handset the phone is still working after two years of use.

UPDATED REVIEW -- DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!! BUYER BEWARE
Do NOT buy this phone. This review is an updated review after 6 months of use. I, iike, others who complained about this phone not working after a few months have the same problem I also purchased a headset different manufacturer at the same time. My problem is that people tell me that they cannot hear me when I speaking pretty loudly, either with the headset, speaker phone, or handset. After a month of people all telling the same thing, I now realize it's the phone and not on their end (which I initially thought). The volume is turned up to the highest level. I called Amazon on this phone and asked them if they could hear me, they said it was difficult to hear (handset), speaking directly into handset. Others have complained of similar issues. Believe it!

So far I love this phone
So far I love this phone. I've read a lot of complaints about them not lasting. I hope that won't be the case. I need this for work. Need the headset jack. Both the headset and speaker phone have been working well so far. Some have complained that the battery compartment doesn't open. I initially thought that too. I could see the compartment, but there didn't seem to be a little handle to open it, plus the seam is so smooth and perfectly fitting, that you can't see that it actually opens. I had my son look at it. He discovered there is a small pin hole in the opening where you open the compartment door. Push a pin end into that opening and the compartment opens very easily. I've been using the supplied batteries so far, and the phone is working great. I don't use the quick dial buttons, just have no need for them, but the caller ID, call waiting, etc., are all working well. The message waiting light is another thing that I needed. This one works really well. All the functions work well as advertised so far.

I bought this phone and liked it a lot the first five months or so
I bought this phone and liked it a lot the first five months or so. Then it would answer a call without lifting the handset. The display went all screwy showing all eights and when you picked up the handset or hit speaker, it was an open line. It just didn't hang up without disconnecting the telephone line from the wall. I blamed AT&T, but just in case bought another phone (different make). It was not as nice as this phone, but it works. As others have noted, the sound is not loud on this phone, but all the other features are great. If I bought it again, I would definitely buy the 3 or 4 year warranty. It is not going to last.

Four Stars
works fine for a line phone. The sound when receiving a call is really high pitched though
