and easy to understand
This book is clearly written, and easy to understand. I feel like the description on the product page is more detailed than it was when I bought it, otherwise, I would have saved myself the lunch money. If you're looking for a book that really is an introduction to statistics-- and I mean definitions and simple explanations of the basic terms you will be using, this book is for you. If you need that introduction to give you the information without being technical gibberish with a million not immediately related terms in between, this book is for you. If you're looking for a guide to SPSS, this book is (maybe?) for you. If you are trying to get a simple explanation for how to do all those calculations by hand; are in a class that in no way ever, uses any computer program to do these calculations; or are trying to pass the hell that can be PSYC07/8, keep searching friends--This book, will not be your saviour.

Good review of Statistics...but no MANOVA
I'm giving this book a four star rating. It was a wonderful refresher for some topics in Psychology Statistics but just not enough for Graduate School. It was missing the topics of MANOVA, multivariate analysis of variance and MANCOVA, multivariate analysis of covariance. But overall, the coverage of topics was good.Statistics can be daunting for many, but remembering that mathematics and statistics are not the same as well as thinking of Statistics as a language are helpful. To learn a language, it takes practice and incorporation into your daily life. Practice, practice, practice makes one more comfortable with the language.I would recommend it for an undergraduate Psychology student that needs additional reading for mastering the topic but for graduate students it simply is not enough. That's where YouTube comes in, the media video site is chock full of additional support and resource learning. That's how I got through my first graduate statistics class: this book and YouTube.

The book is ok,
The book is OK information. I have had to use other sources as well. Their website, is a mess, and I could not find the "cheat sheet" that the book alludes to. It would be nice to have some of the statistic, research formulas to refer to while doing my class. Luckily I found them elsewhere.

Good
Was a very nice helpful resource for the Social Science Statistics course I was taking.. It cleared up any confusion that I felt my course textbook didn't explain adequately. I received an A in the course and feel this book can help.

Helpful
This is a plain-spoken book that is useful for learning the fundamentals about SPSS. Also a good reference for the future. Supplemented with a class and a great instructor, learning how to do this kind of analysis can be beneficial to your career.

This book works with SPSS software. What is THAT?! I use Excel! This book was a waste of my time.
I wish I'd have known before I purchased this book that it works in tandem with SPSS software. Waste of my time, as I'm using Excel.

Though I haven't used SPSS, it was insightful
Reading this book gave me a rather good overview on some basic concepts in descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. I've only just taken one introductory course on Statistics for psychologists, but some topics - like the use of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) - were interesting to know about.I would recommend using this book together with the textbook one uses in class, and for those who don't use SPSS to practice using the formula's on a regular basis!

This book is a life saver!
Very helpful book. I've never taken a statistics class before and had to take Advanced Research and Stats for a graduate program. This program was very thorough and walked me through all of the steps I needed to complete a research project and analyze the data using the SPSS program. It also helped me get an 85 on a statistics final exam, which I was pleased with. Yes, not an A, but as I said, I have no background in stats. Wasn't sure what an independent variable, ANOVA, central tendency, or any stats term meant before I read this book.

Psychology Statistics For Dummies -Excellent Book
When in a rush, and you have some basics (Mean, Median, Mode & Range) this is the book to go for. No fuss/frills calmly talks you through what needs to be done. It even gives you test others have neglected to mention such as Kendall tau and the reasons these are more appropriate in some cases (tied ranks of data/smaller sample) in comparison to say Spearman rho-The author lays out how to write the equations/results in the correct scientific method according to APA. Whilst all the time explaining what you are doing. if you have this book you don't need to buy any other. That said it's not basic enough to tell you what test to use for which investigation you have to have a rough idea...and doesn't have nice colourful charts. There is no visual Flow charts - to help guide you on the correct investigation and tests to conduct. But it's a solid book and one worth investing in- buy it!

Great for someone new to psychology and statistics
Learning about the statistical side of psychology, this is a great reference and has given me the confidence I needed to understand how to analyse the results of my research. Starts with the basics, gives a solid grounding of basics statistics and explains, using everyday language and examples, the reason to use the various methods and good clear examples. Gives some examples on using SPSS (note, PSPP is a free alternative and although not completely the same, I was able to find all the basics).

Opens up statistics in a very easy manner
I have been really struggling with learning statistics but this book has helped enourmously. It's broken down in segments and speaks ordinary language. Nothing fancy but that's the delight of Dummies books. I've purchased a few now over the yrs when tackling certain subjects and they all seem to 'uncomplicate' subjects so worth investing in. This book goes back to basics which is a big help as maths was my nemesis. Worth buying n I received nxt day so excellent service. Highly recommended

Title is misleading
I did not realise there would be so much focus on SSPS. It is mostly about using this programme. I use R, but I thought that this book would help me with the stats side of things, but, really, this is a book about SSPS. Also, it assumes a basic understanding of maths, which I don't really have, so it wasn't very helpful.
