Deep Cleansing and Refreshing—A Great Choice for Men’s Skin
I’m really happy with the L'Oreal Paris Men Expert Face Wash Pure Charcoal. This cleanser is a real game-changer if you struggle with blackheads, oily skin, or just want a deeper clean at the end of the day. The combination of pure charcoal, glycerin, and salicylic acid works together to draw out dirt, excess oil, and impurities from your pores, leaving your skin feeling fresh and invigorated. I’ve noticed that after using it regularly, my skin looks clearer, feels smoother, and the appearance of blackheads and blemishes is definitely reduced. The gel texture is easy to apply and foams up nicely, so a little goes a long way. I especially like how it targets the forehead, nose, and chin—areas where I tend to get the most congestion. It’s designed for daily use, and I’ve found it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or overly dry, which is a big plus. Some people mention a slight tingling sensation, which I find refreshing, but it’s best to avoid the eye area as it can sting if it gets too close. What stands out is how clean and revitalized my skin feels after each wash. The scent is subtle and fresh, and the formula is dermatologically tested for safety. If you’re looking for a face wash that helps control oil, fights blemishes, and leaves your skin feeling genuinely clean without stripping it, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try. It’s become a staple in my daily routine, and I can see why so many people rate it highly.

Great cleaning effect
Daily use, smells amazing, leaves skin clear and smooth, I find it helps control the oil in your skin very well. Recommend using moisturiser after.

Works for mild blackheads but can dry skin
The L'Oreal Paris Men Expert Pure Charcoal Face Wash feels refreshing and helps reduce mild blackheads and excess oil thanks to the charcoal and salicylic acid. It lathers well and leaves skin feeling clean. However, the glycerin and active ingredients can be a bit drying, especially if you have sensitive or already dry skin. While it’s effective for oily areas, using it too frequently may lead to tightness or irritation. Overall, it’s a decent face wash for oily or combination skin, but caution is needed if your skin is sensitive or prone to dryness.

Five stars – effective daily cleansing with excellent value for money
I bought this face wash to deal with oily skin and occasional breakouts, mainly as a straightforward daily cleanser rather than a complicated skincare step. The gel foams well with a small amount and gives a very noticeable clean, particularly around the nose and forehead where oil builds up most. After rinsing, my skin feels fresh and smooth without the heavy residue some charcoal products leave behind. The menthol style cooling effect is noticeable and makes it feel especially good in the morning or after exercise. With regular use, it does a solid job of keeping shine under control and helping pores look clearer. That said, the cooling sensation can be a little strong if you have sensitive skin, and it will sting if used too close to the eyes, so some care is needed when applying. The packaging is simple and affordable, and for the price it performs better than expected. Overall, it is a reliable, no fuss cleanser that delivers consistent results for oily or blemish prone skin.

Actually delivers a cleaner, brighter look for “older” combination skin
I gave this two full months before reviewing because I wanted to see if it was just that first-wash placebo or actually doing something. I have combination skin but also… I’m not in my 20s anymore - or even my 50s! The dullness and enlarged pores around the nose/cheeks have become my main battle, and too many “charcoal” washes are basically just grey dyed gel. This one is genuinely different. What I noticed in 2 weeks: skin looks slightly brighter after the AM cleanse, not grey/matte/muted pores on and around my nose look a little less “crater-y” gets rid of that mid-day shine without drying the jawline/beard area it rinses clean, not slippery, not squeaky/tight I think the combo of charcoal + salicylic acid + glycerin really does actually balance out combo skin rather than nuke it. Physcologically it feels almost like a quick mud pack for my face every morning. One minor negative: it takes a lot to rinse off your face. I use a face cloth to completely remove it. Overall: this has replaced my Nivea and Bulldog washes because it makes my face look more alive in the morning. For the price vs performance, it’s an easy repurchase — and a product I’d genuinely recommend to other men who want anti-dullness without the dryness penalty.

A Cooling Charcoal face Wash: Best for Oily Skin, Not for Sensitive, dry skins
For a long time, L'Oréal’s Hydra Energetic Wake Up Effect Face Wash had been a reliable option, consistently leaving my skin noticeably smoother compared with traditional soap bars such as Dove. That positive experience created an expectation that exploring another product from the same brand—something more modern and intriguing like a charcoal or carbon‑based cleanser—would deliver similar results. The decision felt promising at first, but the outcome turned out to be unexpectedly disappointing. Once the charcoal variant was introduced into the routine, the skin began reacting in ways that were difficult to ignore. Instead of the smooth, refreshed finish previously associated with the Hydra Energetic formula, this cleanser produced pronounced dryness, tightness, and a flaky, almost scaly texture. With naturally sensitive and dry skin, the reaction was even more severe, making the product unsuitable from the very first uses. The charcoal component, known for its strong oil‑absorbing capacity, immediately stripped moisture from the skin, amplifying dehydration rather than improving clarity. The formulation itself is clearly engineered for a very different skin profile. Charcoal‑based cleansers are typically intended for very oily skin, seborrheic skin with excess sebum production, or individuals who regularly apply heavy makeup or sunscreen and require intensive cleansing. They also tend to perform better in environments with soft or softened water, where rinsing off viscous or soapy residues can be challenging. In humid, sultry climates, the menthol content can create a refreshing, icy‑cool sensation that some users may appreciate. However, menthol and peppermint extract can also induce a burning or stinging effect on sensitive skin, and this reaction became especially evident when the product was tested on a 12‑year‑old child, who immediately experienced discomfort and irritation. For these reasons, such cleansers are generally recommended for mid-day use rather than both morning and night. They are not suitable for dry skin, sensitive skin, combination skin with dehydrated patches, eczema‑prone skin, barrier‑damaged skin, or children. The overall experience demonstrates that while charcoal cleansers can be effective for specific skin types and conditions, they can be excessively harsh for anyone with compromised or naturally delicate skin.
