My Daughter's Favorite
"Fancy" Nancy is all grown up. My daughter loves these books and it is a lot of fun that she gets to grow up as the character does. I love the emphasis in the earlier books about expanding vocabulary in such a fun way, so it is great that the author has expanded into chapter books. We originally borrowed this from the local library, but my daughter enjoyed it so much, we had to get her a copy of her own. This is the second book in the series, and a third is available in hardback (hopefully it will be released in paperback soon). While my daughter loves the fun character that dresses up and pretends, I really appreciate that we get to see Nancy make mistakes and clear up relationships. It makes for a great learning opportunity as we read through the books together. I also have a feeling that we'll be branching into one of Nancy Clancy's favorites, Nancy Drew soon as well. This is a beautifully designed series that keeps kids entertained while being educational in a way that doesn't beat you over the head. I'm looking forward to many more of Nancy's adventures.

A bit of a let down
The seven-year-old daughter and I were looking forward to this. We liked, but didn't love, the first in this series, NC Super Sleuth. Nope, we didn't love it, but hoped the second would shore up the series some. It doesn't. While we both enjoyed our reading well enough, we were disappointed that the mystery elements were completely missing here. My daughter thought maybe we had found a new mystery series suitable for her age and reading level, but this drifts far afield from mystery. I was a little confused by the romance bit. Perhaps this is aiming older (though it seems, reading-wise right in line), but neither I, nor the second-grader-to-be are much taken with trying to hook-up teenagers. While they story is sweet-natured and nothing inappropriate goes on, the obsession with finding "eternal love" doesn't warm any cockles for either of us.So it's two "meh"s from us. Not bad, nothing special. We were just hoping it might be. Might try one more in this series, but no breath is baited around our house on this series.

Encourages Children Being UnSafe!!!!
Although this was a great learning lesson for my daughter. I was appalled that author Jane O' Connor wrote about Nancy and her friend Bree accepting rides from a boy that they hardly knew (Bree didn't know at all)! I had to explain to my daughter (age 6) that you never get into a car or truck in this case, with a boy or man. Even a woman, (stranger) that is not mom or dad unless you know that your mom has given permission. And by permission that mom has told you directly to you that it is ok. I also can't believe that Nancy's mom leaves her alone in her bedroom with a 16 year old boy that she found in a newspaper ad!I found this book and story line really questionable, as well. Nancy and Bree are trying to fix up their babysitter with Nancy's new guitar teacher. I think the lying is really horrible. This book tries to make lying appear ok when it comes to a "surprise"! I think trying to make 16 year olds have eternal love is a very dumb story line.I will admit my daughter has loved every other Nancy Clancy book that she has read. This one makes me stop and think are we going to continue with these books? I think I might move on to a series that doesn't teach kids unsafe behavior! And that the parents care where the kids are. I get that this is a book, but why is it that at the age of 9 Nancy is always off and her parents have no idea what she is doing? Bothers me as a mom.

Love Nancy!
Fancy Nancy was my daughter's favorite picture story book series so I was thrilled to see the new chapter books. My daughter devoured this book and can't wait to read another, so please, Ms. O'Connor, write quickly!!! My only disappointment as a parent was that part of the charm of the FN books is the "that's a fancy word for..." jargon in them. It really alerts the girls to new vocabulary AND makes it seem special to learn the words. The chapter books don't use that nearly as much, and while I'm sure it's because these are intended for a slightly older crowd I still think any girl who liked FN would appreciate those references. Girls who find those too "baby" are probably into reading much more mature/teen lit and would not be interested in reading the Nancy Clancy books anyway.

This is by 11-year-old Julie
I liked the book. after I started reading it I thought it was ok. then when I started to read again the next day I read page 31-90. when my mom said ok you may stop reading now. And I normally don't really like reading to much. One reason I like this book is after you read for a while it really starts to get interesting especially when Bree and Nancy have this great idea for two people. I really liked this book and I'm sure if you read it you will to. So I recommend kids around my age to read this book because it is very interesting!

My Fancy Fan Adored this!
My 7-year-old daughter would often rather be designing clothes in her notebook than reading a chapter book, but I got her this because she's always adored the Fancy Nancy books. It was the only book this summer I didn't have to force her to read! She flew it, and was so in love, that I promptly ordered the second and pre-ordered the third. I've never seen her happy over a book as when #2 appeared as a surprise in the mail! I love that our girls can grow up a bit now with Nancy Clancy. Positively parfait!

Lovely chapter books for avid readers
My 8-year-old daughter has grown up with Fancy Nancy and it is nice for her to progress from the I Can Read style books, then the illustrated books and now through to Chapter Books. She loves to read these - she will disappeared to a quiet spot to read the book and can easily finish one in two afternoons. So happy.

Great read!
This was an amazing read. I loved the details the author went into to get the thought process of a young girl.

Not very Fancy Nancy
Be warned, this isn't the classic type of Fancy Nancy with gorgeous pictures etc. This is in black and white, with no colour, very disappointing on my 7yr old birthday.
