Finally: A good-quality deadlock.
This is a quality lock. Much better than the cheap (~$20-$30) locks that I had also purchased.I purchased and installed 3 of these locks.I use them as night-latches, so I did not install the included key-entry option. I wanted a way to lock the door (when I'm inside) that couldn't possibly be picked.Tools required:- Wood Chisel (To carve out the space for the latch pad to sit flush. 1" wide works well.)- Hammer (to knock on the chisel)- Wood blocks / Shims (To fill the space between your door-jamb and stud. Usually a 1/2" gap that you should fill)- A Saw or Router (for cutting away space on your door trim. A chisel works too, but can be ugly)- Hole punch (to mark your hole locations with the included template)- Drill + Drill Bit (to pre-drill the screw-holes)- File (to help clean up edges, and add a slight chamfer to the dead-lock bolt's holes if need be)- ***Two long screws (package fails to include screws long enough to actually pass through the jamb, wood-spacer, and reach the stud) I'm pointing at said screws in photo. I think I used some 2" or 2.5" long ones. Without the use of these screws, you can kick a door down quite easily.- Screwdriver (to put it all together)It takes a while to install these locks.I think I spent 1.5 hours installing my first one.But it's totally worth it.Other notes:- Solid "ker-chunk sound and feeling when you lock it)- Lever points horizontal when un-locked.- Lever rotates clockwise to lock.- Lever points vertical when locked.- Color (brown) is painted on.- ***missing 2 long screws for proper (secure) installation (see *** note above)

fit my 1950s double deadbolt lock set to adapt it to an inside turning lever rather than a key
I use this item to replace the inside component of the lock set on my door which was originally fitted for a double key deadbolt configuration to prevent an intruder from breaking a glass on a windowpane reaching in and opening the door. However this type of lock assembly is not allowed in current fire codes due to the risk of trapping an occupant inside if the internal key is lost or broken. it fit my openings already cut in the door, screw mounting holes and existing cylinder assembly with minimal difficulty and took only a few minutes to install. It is overall a very secure fabricated item.

Nice deadbolt but it was Broken
The media could not be loaded. The product came on a broken box but inside a plastic Amazon package, no missing parts so I processed to install it to my surprise the inside mechanism works great but you couldn't use the key because you won't be able to take it out after you unlock the deadbolt and the same thing happened when you lacked using the key, I would love to have it working but unfortunately I'm returning it, too bad it was broken I did have high expectations for this lock

Perfect replacement for a 40 year old lock
I purchased the Yale 197 Jimmy Proof Deadbolt lock system to replace our 40 year old Yale 197 that had broken at the indoor flip handle. The new lock is a perfect replacement. My only problem is there are very minor dimension differences (less than 1/16" inch) that have resulted in my increasing the size of the screw holes to make it fit properly on the door jamb size. My old lock was a tight fit due to an initial improper installation (that worked ok) but the new lock is a better fit and I needed to have more flexibility in the spacing of the deadbolt slide to doorjamb. The new screws holding the lock are just slightly thicker. I would have preferred a more brass like color rather than brownish, but the sprayed brass is acceptable and the color matches the website picture perfectly.Still this is an excellent replacement for an old lock since it basically fits perfectly with very minor adjustments on the door jamb side for the deadbolt.

Not as shown in add. Had to return.
This is a well made lock and I bought it as shown on Amazon. The lock I received from the seller was not the model shown in the add. The one I received required a key inside. That is not allowed on building codes here. Locks inside must have a thumblatch. Had to return the lock to Amazon, The illustration needs to be changed the be correct.

Can't wait to replace this
Bought it to replace the identical model lock that broke after what I'm guessing is about 25 years. Bought the yale at 2x to 3x the cost of the look-alikes so the installation would go smoother, but was very disappointed. Instead of providing different length screws for different width doors, they give a "break-off" style screw which screwed up the threads making them useless. I had to go buy screws. The wood screws to mount the lock, which are very visible, have a brass finish instead of bronze. And bronze is the only finish yale seems to offer (another annoyance). I'm giving it a 2 because it did fit the existing holes for the previous model, and it does seem like a very sturdy lock. We will buy a new door soon, and this lock will not be going on the new doors.

Wrong model
Thougfh the picture showed the knob style the model sent uses the key on the inside. I didn't have time to return it and it works OK.
