Checkered Flag Performance 4.030" Tapered Piston Ring Compressor

Used this on a SBC 350 project with .030 over pistons. This was my first build and first time using this product and there were no issues. Everything was smooth and I have no issues with this product. Remember to Oil your entire piston before installation. I even used this to help install the one-piece rubber main bearing gasket/boot. Tip your engine so you're installing parallel to the ground. This way you can do one bank at a time and reach the rod caps after you seat the piston without the need to rotate the block or work from below.

So after the first tool wouldn't work I ordered a second thinking I must have just gotten a bad one.Unfortunately the second was no different.When trying to install the piston the oil ring stops solid coming out of the tool.The small end (engine side) of both tools measured 4.053".Maybe it's just me but I don't see how that could possible work with a 4.030" bore.

If after all the other things that you have to buy during a rebuild, you have a few extra bucks, but a tapered ring compressor. Shame to use such a quality tool once and done, but it will guarantee you get you rings in the cylinder without damage from those cheaper and poorly designed band compressors. Oil the tool with each piston installation and they slide in like #@&*$. Really nice and highly recommended!

Highly recommend this tool.Been using the old Allen key style to tighten ring compressor.This tool made piston install so easy.Throwing that old tool in the garbage.Best $20.00 spent.

4.030 was supposed to be the size, but at first couldn’t install pistons into a 4.030 bore after couple attempts I bore dial gauged the installer finding that the tool measured 4.035 this tool is useless this has cost me a lot of time and money

This thing is amazing. I was using a band style one for the first few pistons until it failed, and didn't work well to begin with. After getting this thing, it is absolutely amazing, it's like bam!, the piston is in. I actually had to pull the pistons multiple times even to check clearances between the pin boss and crank counterweights, this tool made life easy, highly recommend.

I just got this tool and immediately had to try it. I even checked it with a Mitutoyo dial caliper and I can't wait to order the other sizes. I will throw my old ring compressor tool away now. The difference between a Bugatti and a tricycle. AWESOME JOB Checkered Flag Performance.
