It looks higher than it is wide and so is 15-1/8-inches the actual height, and what are the internal dimensions.

Accepted Answer

15-1/8ths is the overall height with lid on to the highest point on the lid rim. Internal dimensions vary since the walls are flared from bottom to top, and also all walls are buttressed in the middle as you can see from the outside view. Minimum dimensions at the bottom are 12-1/4 x 20-3/8. Minimum dimensions at the top are 14 x 21-5/8. Interior height with lid in place is 13-7/8. The lid is recessed down into the interior, so the interior height is an inch greater if not using the lid

Question 2

Is this tote sturdy enough to sit on without colapsing the sides or breaking the lid?  I'd like to both haul gear and use it as a seat regularly.

The box itself is very sturdy. The lids less so. I have had three of those crack/tear along the edge (out of around 50), simply from having a stack of these boxes on top of eachother. Two that have failed hasn't had more than 100-130lbs of weight placed gently on top of them. They seem to have broken when the storage space heated up after the winter (it's a "heated space" so no freezing, but it still gets hotter once the sun starts beating down in spring.) Kind of annoying to find three boxes having fallen forward from the wall and onto the floor, and the bottom one they rested on having the lid fail. The last of the three broke during some fairy rough (but not really "brutish") transfer onto a truck bed, so perhaps less alarmingly.The lids are fairly thin. Not flimsy like a lot of the non "commercial" exercises in pure cost cutting that is for sale. But definitely an area I would make a mil or so thicker if I could, as they don't quite live up to what I think of as "Brute" use.

Question 3

Not to be funny, but are the bottoms waterproof for setting in a leaky basement? The reason I ask is because I have seen containers with drain holes.

I use them as reservoirs for a drip feed garden. Waterproof and sturdy, built to last.

How do they stand up to outdoor use. Are they made with UV plastics?

Don't know about the uv plastic but I use mine for camping and going out to my property about 2-3 times a month and they have held up great.  They seem very durable and are waterproof.  They are worth every penny.
