I originally purchased this adapter to hook up my computer to a VGA port on a TV that scales poorly, when using straight HDMI. It did not go well. Just a blank screen would appear, but windows did recognize the monitor was attached. I tried another cable still nothing. I will add that I have a KVM in between the computer and TV. I wound up giving up and figured I wasted 13 bucks, but then I remembered I have a tv that's hdmi is broken, and I wanted to attach a Roku to it. I was able to get that working successfully, runs great. The adapter seems rather cheaply made, and the screws are in a bad position. At one point the adapter split open at the seam, and I needed to put it back together. So, Careful it will break easily, which is why I am knocking stars off. I am happy that it is now working and I hope it remains that way.

Yes, I recommend this HDMI to VGA with Sound converter.The good: Connecting my mini PC to my Sony TV KDL-37L4000 using HDMI cable resulted in "overscan" (picture image exceeds visible screen, edges of picture not visible), that could not be corrected by TV settings or PC graphic software. The PC had no VGA output so I used this devices to convert my HDMI cable to VGA and audio connections at my TV. Very pleased with the picture and audio quality. I don't think it could get better.The Bad: As others have mentioned, the plastic used to house the electronics feels thin and brittle. In my case, I do not expect this to be a problem because the TV is in a protected area and not subject to bumps or drops.

Wonderful gadget. I'm using it to convert my google chromecast to an older computer monitor along with speakers and I am pleasantly surprised how seamless it all has come together! I also love the small profile and the accessibility is just right!

I purchased it to connect my Raspberry Pi to a monitor. Raspberry Pi has an HDMI output port, but unfortunately my monitor only had VGA and DVI input ports. I used this adapter to connect the Raspberry Pi to monitor by attaching it to Raspberry Pi and VGA Cable. Overall, it has been performing great!

It work’s and the picture and sound quality transfer is good.The screw placement is the worst I’ve ever been subjected to. Having to ask someone with tiny finger’s to help Me screw it in and they are unable to secure it is why My star’s are reduced for this product. PCB’s being easily engineered these days ought to make not just the end result a good experience but the step’s to achieve and experience the end result a good experience when implementing an addition to the different combination’s of printed circuit board’s people collect to use together simultaneously.

This product works well as a temporary converter, if your looking for a permanent tool, or a tool able to use in different places you may want to spend more money and invest in a Bette product. After 1 week of standard home use I began getting graphic issues. After looking at it the converter was heating up drastically during use. I tried adjusting my computer and monitor but still had the glitching frames. Upon taking a close inspection a second time (now 10 avg days of use) the protective case fell apart exposing the inside of the machine. I have no longer been able to use and have since upgraded. If your looking to use a slower computer and weaker monitor this may work but as a technician i cannot recommend this product.In conclusion when you get this product ensure that you are not overloading this and if you need a converter desperately I recommend spending a bit more.

I attempted to use this product to connect my Chrome-cast to a dated computer monitor. The definition of the HDMI was too high for the monitor, so the experiment/project stalled. Had to purchase a different connector to use the DVI port on the monitor. Also needed to feed the sound to a speaker.

As some have described, I too did not have luck with this item. I could not get a signal from any device, item I received seemed to be defective. Quite possibly unidirectional in the opposite of advertised. Economic enough that I'm not bothering with a replacement. Went out and bought a $100 TV, instead of my initial intent to use an old monitor & speaker using this converter.
