Always been a fan of Makita
It’s a quality, heavy duty tool. I am somewhat biased as stated in the title.

Good Drill
This is a great hammer drill for everyday purposes. It has good power and nice features, such as the L.E.D. light. I thought the light was a gimmick at first, but when it was late afternoon and I find myself inside a building with no lights, the light was great. I have tried other hammer drills but for the money you can't beat this one. Of course if you are going to use this tool all day long there are better options. I bought the Makita HP2070F for my all day use Hammer Drill and it is a beast.

go buy the milwaukee 5387-22!
As a long time milwaukee drill fan (and an extremely happy owner of the venerable Milwaukee 5371 2 sp hammer drill from 1984!) I purchased this Makita for an employee at his request - and it was cheaper to boot! Now, mind you this is a CORDED 2-speed gearcase hammer drill, so when we plugged it in an tried to use a 1-1/8" ship auger in a 2x6 - guess what - the clutch kicked in - THE CLUTCH? nice touch for an underpowered drill - like a small drill like this needs a clutch! This is not a cordless screwdriver - but a "heavy duty" drill. Looks like a bunch of LAWYERS designed this TOY! So I pulled out my 5371 milwaukee and instantly blew through the wood. needless to say, the mak went right back into the box and back to Amazon. In exchange, I ordered the NEW version of my drill, the Milwaukee 5387-22 and it is every bit as good as the old one - and in a totally different league than the BLUE TOY from Makita. As usual, AMAZON was Amazing in the ease of return and fairness factor - thanks Amazon. my 2 cents!

clutch too weak
I purchased this exact drill a few years ago and was disappointed the first time I used it with an auger bit doing house wiring. I could not get a hole thru the top plate without the clutch slipping. Using a brand new bit right out of the pack, it should have drilled right thru with no problem. Makita dropped the ball on this one! Ihave several other Makita tools and they are good tools, this one not at all. look at another model or brand.
