Incomprehensible how such an inexpensive instrument could be soooo good!
My mind is blown. I've played flute practically my whole life. I wanted a practice instrument that I could leave at my city condo so I didn't have to keep carrying my Yamaha with me. I saw this and couldn't believe the price. But I really don't have hundreds to spend on another instrument that will just be used in my practice room. I thought the colors would just be cool. When I received it and took the case out of the box, I looked at the cheap, soft-sided case and, well, I wasn't expecting much. Well I was in for a shock. I put it together and just stared at it. The metallic blue body and brightly polished gold-colored keys were dazzling. Very cool indeed. Now for the real test. I put it to my lips and ran two octaves of scales up and down a few times. Wow. Crystal clear, smooth tone, excellent, effortless vibrato. The pads all seal tightly with the lightest of touch. The keys all work flawlessly. I expected my finger's muscle memory to have a problem with the return spring tension. Not so. Closing my eyes, I can't tell the difference between this little mind-blower and $3000 Yamaha.I played a little Irish ditty. I played a little Bach, a little jazz and a little Jethro Tull. I certainly found a good practice instrument! If you have a good ear, especially that of an experienced flutist, the difference in sound between a really fine instrument and this is very distinguishable.Bottom line... Need a really decent, inexpensive practice instrument? Look no further. Have a child interested in learning the flute? Here you go! For incredibly minimal investment, you could start your child down a path that can provide a lifetime of enrichment. Or, did you play flute in high school or college and just want to see if you have any of that talent and skill left? Here you go! Get one and some music and go play in the basement. You'll be surprised how wonderful it feels to have one of these lovely instruments in your hands and how genuinely fine the sound is.

I didn't want to spend too much simply because I wasn't sure if I'd remember how to play or if I'd still get enjoyment out of it
I used to play the flute for about 6+ years when I was younger (about 15 years ago). I unfortunately didn't have my old flute anymore and have been wanting to get one for a while. I didn't want to spend too much simply because I wasn't sure if I'd remember how to play or if I'd still get enjoyment out of it. With that said, I found this flute for such a fantastic price and just HAD to get it.I am giving this 5 stars because it was exactly what I thought it'd be. I picked it right up and realized I still remember how to play! This flute is perfect for anyone in a similar situation or for someone who just wants to dabble with it to see if they like the instrument before purchasing a better quality (and much more expensive) one.I absolutely don't recommend this for people who are learning to play in a band/performance setting (like school children or if you're taking lessons, etc). The quality is not great and will discourage anyone with a real passion for learning how to play. The pads are somewhat sticky, and the head (the part you blow into) does not create a good sound. It's actually a little difficult and frustrating because you have to hit the air jussttt right in order to make a sound (whereas in a better quality flute, it's quite easy to make a beautiful sound and you're able to learn different breathing/mouth techniques as you get better). The package came with gloves.. Which seemed a little silly and extraneous to me but I appreciated their desire to give the customer a bit extra. It also came with lubricant which no flute should ever use or need it. The case is nice and sturdy and even came with a longer attachable carrying strap. It of course also included a cleaning rod and cloth although I think the cloth should've been about half the size for ease of use.The flute itself is not great quality.. But again, I didn't expect it to be. The price is absolutely phenomenal. And above all, it works. I don't personally like colored flutes lol but I bought the blue one because of the cheaper price tag.Overall I'm very satisfied!

Surprisingly Good Flute, Especially For A Beginner
The media could not be loaded. Great first flute! Can't beat the price. Not sure about durability, but straight out of the box, it plays very well! Check out the video where we compare it with a professional model Yamaha. Yes, there are some challenges to play the upper notes in tune, and a good player will be able to distinguish the lesser tone quality. The lower register is especially good sounding. For a beginner, or for someone who wants to double on the flute, this would be a good pick. I would recommend that it be played first by an experienced player just to make sure it is adjusted properly. We checked the position of the head cork, and it was spot on. Recommend 4.5 out of 5, so I'll round that up to 5 stars for this review.
