Toro 51621 UltraPlus Leaf Blower Vacuum, Variable-Speed (up to 250 mph) with Metal Impeller, 12 amp,Red

I liked almost everything about this little guy. It is powerful enough to suck up even green (read wet and heavy) leaves, yet not quite powerful enough to pick up all of my pea gravel. It made short work of the leaves in the video... 3 trees decided to drop all the leaves at one time after a freeze. Enjoy the rather satisfying time lapse of this thing slaying a ton of leaves. Positives: -The suction can be adjusted with the flick of a knob if you start to scoop up small landscaping rocks, or let it rip to get in the crevices of larger rocks, nooks and crannies. -It can change into a blower, if you need to move leaves around and don't have a broom. -Lots of hand placement options due to the amount of handles they put on this thing -Not super loud -Mulches the heck out of dried leaves with the metal impeller Negatives: -Should strap is uncomfortable as all get up, I will be changing this out as soon as I can -The few places where the plastic parts go together leak air (read blows dust all over you) really bad, I put some small beads of silicone around the edges where it seals and that solved the issue. In the mean time, i used my hand to keep dust from blowing up into my face where the piping connected. -The cord keeper doesn't keep the cord plugged in well. Not sure how to fix this other than tying more knots. Tips: -Worked best when held almost 90 degrees to the ground aka straight up and down -If you suck up some small sticks, and it looses suction, or gets clogged, shut it off, and give the bottom of the barrel a few taps while its spinning down, this was usually enough to clear any clogs. If not, you have to take the snout off and clear manually. -Make sure when you adjust the shoulder strap, the bag comes out horizontal to the ground when its on, otherwise you loose flow. -Don't let the bag get over half way full. Not only is it a pain in the shoulder, the machine is not running near its peak efficiency. The less it blows out the bag, the less suction you get. Don't be a hero. -One rather useful technique not in the video (and if you have limited extension cord length) is to lay it on its side, and sweep a large pile of leaves near the inlet. Grab some gloves and scoop the leaves in being careful not the jam up the inlet. The pile will go away quickly and your shoulder will thank you. -Once you have emptied your bag (only need to do this every 2-3 empties), leave the zipper open and turn it to full blast. This will clear out the inside of the bag much better than just dumping it or hitting it with your hand. You want as much flow as possible to get better suction. Turn it back off and zip it on up.

The Toro 51621 leaf blower is the best one I have ever purchased. It is extremely powerful, and has a rheostat control that allows for any desired speed. It is the second one I have owned - the first one stopped working after 16 years of hard use. This leaf blower may well be the last one you will ever buy.

I have owned many of these electric Toro leaf blowers and I find them to be better for me to use than the gas ones. However, I have had an on going problem with the power plug melting into the extension cord to the point where it cannot be removed, forcing me to purchase a replacement. This always happens once the warranty has expired. I stand by Toro products because of their craftsmanship and performance and will continue to purchase their products. Toro needs to explain why I have this ongoing problem and how to eliminate it. I use the proper extension cord and I use the blower in accordance with manual instructions but the melting problem persist. Other than this ongoing problem, the blower clears my yard of leaves and debris as expected. Interchanging from blowing to mulching and bagging is easy and I am pleased with the cleaning performance. The blower is light weight for senior citizens like myself and easy to handle. I recommend this product.

I've used several gas-powered blowers around my property (three acres with over 200 trees and bushes), but my overall go-to favorite over the past several years was my Toro Ultra 51599 for the area directly around my house--40+ trees and bushes all dropping leaves in my gutters, rock borders, deck and patio. That beast got some hard duty--cubic yard after cubic of leaves, dropped onto rocks and down window wells, used as a blower for bonfires--and never failed until the day I accidentally smacked it against one of my stone pillars on my porch and shorted out the motor. Dang! Now to find another one. Well, the 51599 is no longer around, but here's this 51621 UltraPlus. Well, you and I know that a new model does not necessarily mean a better model. A lot of times it just means built cheaper. Never fear. This 51621 is better than my old 51599, and I'm sure you can tell, I loved my old Ultra. What I like in my new UltraPlus is that it still has a metal impeller--critical when you're vacuuming leaves out of 3/4" rock, like I do. However the vanes on the impeller are a different design, and it appears to me the both the blowing and the vacuuming functions are enhanced. You can really tell when using the variable speed control. The air movement is more precise throughout the range than it was in my Ultra. The Shredz-All shred ring. Right. Just another gimmick. Wrong! It actually works. The vacuum tube fits tighter onto the power unit for a better vacuum, and that little blue toothed ring does shred leaves finer, so I can get more into the bag before I have to dump it. Speaking of dumping, the zipper is on the bottom, now, rather than in the back, so it's easier to dump, too. Wow! Another feature I really, really appreciate is the new cord lock that's molded in as part of the power unit's body. We all overextend our reach, or get the power cord wrapped around a bush, or something. When that happened to my old 51599, the cord would come unplugged, no matter how I had the cord and unit knotted together. That doesn't happen with this cord lock. And it's big enough to fit a large diameter 14-gauge extension cord (which I highly recommend, so you can keep your 12 amps supplied out to a 100 feet). I didn't use the oscillating nozzle, because I wasn't blowing leaves off a wide area (like my driveway) this Fall. I plan to use that next Summer, though, cleaning grass clipping and debris off my drive. I can't wait to see if it's a cool as the rest of this blower. I also didn't use the concentrator nozzle for my corners. It's a little time-consuming installing it (I think) for the few corners I have. All I did was adjust the speed control while using the regular blowing tube, and it worked just fine for not over-blowing the leaves. As a matter of fact, the control is precise enough, you can adjust for different sizes and shapes of corners. One final note, the decorative rock I have around my house is mostly 3/4" Mountain Gravel. Mountain Gravel, looks great because of all the different shapes and textures, but the same thing that makes for great decoration makes it miserable to clean. Leaves and stuff really work their way into all those nooks and crannies. They vacuum works great on this. For the most part, full vacuum sucked out the debris without dislodging my rock. And in some of the few places where it was beginning to move the rock (3/4" also means 1/2" or less at times), all I needed to do was adjust the speed down a bit. Again, precise control. I'm really happy with my UltraPlus and the improvements Toro made to their already excellent Ultra. They must have employed a legitimate focus group when they designed their changes.

Toro 51621 UltraPlus Leaf Blower arrived this morning. I used it for a couple of hours. I have to say WOW. It performs way ahead of my expectations. I've had several of these little monsters and the only feature I used was the blower. While I was using them I thought, how much better is this than a raking. Just a little. This one is far better than a rake. It is a tad heavy but that is because it is built better than almost all consumer utility products. The metal impeller probably accounts for quite a bit of the weight but it is worth every ounce. Toro engineers did a great job of balancing the motor and impeller because the vibration really is minimal. That is my top interest because I have arthritis in my hands and the old blowers and weed trimmers caused me a great deal of pain. Not this one. The included oscillating attachment works better than I could imagine. I thought it would be a feature joke. Nope, it works quite well. Very clever guys. I thought the variable speed would be a feature joke too. Nope again. I have 10 feet of outside landscape steps to the driveway next to a big oak that likes to keep those stairs full of leaves. I turned the blower speed to about half. The old blower cause half of the leaves to rise and fall behind me. Not with lower velocity. Less dust to eat too. Sounds like I work for Toro. As a mostly retired engineer, I like it when the engineers win over the marketeers and get to deliver an excellent product. Toro has had their share of losers but they hit this one out of the park. Feb 6,2017. We got 5 inches of snow last night. I used this blower to clean off the outside stairway. Easier than a shovel and it cleans right down to the bone. The high speed air gets into places you could not shovel. I parked my car outside because the garage has stuff from a project on the floor. I used this thing to clean the car. It did a great job on windows and mirrors and won't scratch the paint. Of course, it will only work on powder snow, not the heavy, sticky stuff. If you know who Alton Brown is, I'm like him, I really dislike single purpose tools.

I recently purchased a property with 4 grand oaks so I knew leaf management was soon going to be a big part of my life. I read many reviews of similar items and decided to try this one out, mostly due to the cost and positive reviews. My intention was to use my gas husqv blower to pile the leaves, and this product to mulch/vacuum them. I happened to be at the property today with only this item so used it for both functions and was very pleased with the results. It performs well for both tasks. I found it best to blow using low power to organize the piles of leaves, and then vac on high power. The leaves were both dry and damp in the larger piles. It clogged up just once on a particularly thick stick, but generally mulched everything it came up against. Vacuuming is not exactly fast but I think it's vastly superior to raking and bagging leaves. I used the mulch around the base of the trees, instead of having throw away tons of bagged leaves. I'm a tall guy so the vacuuming was a bit awkward, I ended up holding the bag by the straps or setting it down, instead of wearing it on my shoulder. It does generate an excellent mulch, and takes about 5-10 mins to fill the bag. There is some art of course to managing the extension cord, but it felt plenty powerful for these type of leaves. The plastic components appear sturdy and well made; I'm going to keep them indoors, hopefully they last awhile. I'm a little concerned about the stitching on the bag strap, will probably try to minimize filling the bag to keep stress off that stitching. The zipper at the bottom of the mulch bag is a great feature. It's fairly simple to swap the parts to switch modes, takes only a few seconds. There is a mechanism to retain the extension cord, but it took me a few minutes to notice that. Overall I think this is a great little product and already saved me a good amount of time, while reducing waste sent to the landfill. I hope it lasts a few years (never know these days). Will update the review if it fails prematurely.

This is an early review after only a couple of uses, and doesn't speak to durability. I've got a giant walnut tree that sheds hundreds of pounds of leaves at this season. Unfortunately, my Toro 51621 didn't arrive until after a good hard rainfall hit most of them, so I can tell you that it's probably at its best on dry rather than damp leaves--no surprise there. That said, it did a decent job sucking up damp leaves and mulching them down. The key selling point for me was the collector bag with the zipper at the bottom, and it works great. It's true that the mulched leaves are at least three times as dense in the bin or bag as the dry whole leaves, and I hope to avoid putting out half a dozen paper yard bags by really filling the compost bin. The motor is pretty strong, and if I sweep the big collection tube back and forth above the surface and aim to pick up a layer or two at a time, it doesn't clog. However. However, I'm a 62 year old woman with some moderate hand pain from arthritis (and nice fingernails, okay?) and latching and unlatching the attachments was extremely hard on the old thumb joints and the nails. Gripping the machine itself and swinging it back and forth was more muscle exercise than joint strain, but the joints were already in pain from struggling with the rather poorly-designed latches and attachments, and I did about a quarter of my yard before needing to retreat to the ibuprofen bottle. The machine itself is heavy because it has a good motor in what seems to be a pretty solid housing. My three-star rating is for ergonomic issues. I'll keep this device and use it, but not as happily or as comfortably as I'd hoped.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it handles large leaves; I was expecting to only be able to use this with normal sized leaves, but it sucks our dinner-plate sized catalpa leaves right up and turns them into a fine powder. Vacuum end for scale with some of the catalpa leaves and the resulting powder in a garbage bag. It's a massive reduction in volume of bagged leaves, and I think you could just re-use the powder in your yard, though maybe just before or during precipitation, given how fine it is, otherwise a light breeze is going to coat your fence/house/neighbor/dog in concentrated allergens. I was also happy with the length of the vacuum tube; I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam, and it seemed like a fine height, though I was not using the shoulder strap on the bag (and emptying it when it got heavy, around half full). The other nice surprise was that while it picked up leaves and even most of the catalpa pods, it did not pick up dried dog poop (from a small dog) hidden under the leaves. I don't really want to turn that into a fine powder, so that was a win. I briefly tried the blower, and it's incredibly powerful, but I don't want to move leaves to a different spot in my yard, I want them in a bag, and the denser the better. However, it was reasonable for getting them out of some crevices around landscape timbers and window wells for later pickup by the vacuum. I do plan to use it to clear gutters with Toro's gutter kit, and the power is quite promising for that use.

I wanted one of these Toro ultraplus leaf vacuum/blower/mulcher, foe a long time, I haven't had the chance to use it yet but once I have I will post a video. The machine is value for money, it has 2 handles which is good so you're not just using 1 hand, so it will be easier to use, it is a shame that you have to buy a cable to fit the 4inch extension that is on the machine plus a step down voltage converter because the voltage on the machine is 110v which is American and in Britain our voltage is 230v hence the step down converter what toro need to do is supply the machine with both of these as a whole. But anyway I am very happy with everything so far with tools you get for the vacuum /blower/ it has metal mulcher impeller that is better than a plastic but anyway really good so far TBC.

Has great blowing power! Had a bit of an issue with the mulching option when it came to Walnut tree leaves as they have long stocks on the leave itself which got stuck in mulching turbine. Besides that the blower is awsome and raking up the leaves is faster once you blow them into a big pile. Very Comfortable to hold when using and has a great design for cord to not come unplugged while dragging around yard. It was able to blow half wet piles of leaves from off the grass to wherever I pointed this power blaster!!! Great Product. Very happy!

Use this blower for snow removal on sidewalks. Will remove 2 inches of snow easily. Blowing power is excellent. Exceeded my expectations in fact. The handle is ergonomically balanced which makes one handed usage easy. Overall a very good product.
