Great value when it worked but the customer service has turned me off BlueSound for ever!
The Vault works very well and is a good value. It would be nice if it had a SSD. I'm using an optical link into a PS Audio Stellar DAC and the sound is great. Finding Internet radio stations works well too. Initially I liked the product and it performed as advertised. I copied my FLAC cd library to it and set up a couple of internet stations I like and all was well. Over a few months it began to drop the stream. I would have to restart it and this happened 2 to 3 times a day and then it would be fine for several days and then it happen again. After about a year this behavior got worse. after I had it for about 15 months it became very difficult to restart the stream. I could stream the same station on my phone over WiFi but the Vault would not connect. About this time it also would no longer connect to the BlueSound site to perform updates. Then it failed to rip CDs. I looked online and followed all the directions I could find but nothing helped. I contacted BuleSound's support via email and I discovered a new level poor customer service. Absolutely the WORST ever. They will recommend a solution and close the ticket before you can even try it. They kept asking me to re-configure my home WiFi. The Vault does not use WiFi. I finally gave up. I recently contacted BuleSound directly and I'm waiting to find out how much it will cost to return it for a refurb unit. If it's cheap I'll send it in and then sell the exchange unit on Craig's List. In the meantime I bought a Marantz NA6006. It doesn't store music but it has a better interface and sounds great. I will never buy another BlueSound product. A companies product is no better than their customer service and their on-line support set a new low for me.

A great device for moving from CDs to streaming music.
I put this device in to replace two Sony CD carousels that had 500 CDs total. Because I had already invested time in ripping my CDs to FLAC format for backup, I was very pleased to find that I could copy all the files from my backup straight to the Vault 2i. And that takes less than 10% of the storage capacity! I have it plugged into my existing stereo system for now, so no fancy wireless multi-room speakers yet. The app works well on our Android phones and Windows PCs. It would be nice if there were a Linux app. I'm not thrilled with the miserable playlist management, but otherwise the app is fine. I have found that the internal CD isn't as resilient when ripping old scratchy disks, but I can rip them on my PC and transfer them over with no problem. I'm very pleased overall with this device.

Mixed Review
Decent ripper with MP3 and FLAC options. Nice slot load. Good IOS App Same tech as a Node2i Cons: Cannot be used as a CD player directly. No W-Fi, must be an Ethernet connection. Too much money really.

Bluesound VAULT 2i
This is a frustrating software and hardware. When are the makers of software and hardware going to realize that we, the users, are not computer technicians nor software experts? We are simply users! There is no right to make us spend so much time in trying to image what you mean due to your poorly written instructions or not instructions at all. Nothing seems to work with this machine. Finally, I got sound by connecting to the phono input in my stereo system, however the quality of sound is horrible. Connection to the CD input does not work. The optical connection does not work either. Frankly, the sound of my 20 year old CD player is much, much better. In my opinion, fabricators of all these electronic devices should be liable for the tremendous time they often make us lose due to their inability to produce clear, comprehensible instructions and software. The absence of a support telephone number is, to me, very irritating. My patience is to the limit. This equipment is returned to Amazon.

Best value in CD rippers/servers/streamers, but very unreliable CD drive
Update 12/3/24 >>> I discovered another error in the Vault software. My initial batch of ripped CDs were all of the Jazz genre. When I finished those, I started ripping some of my Blues CDs, but I quickly discovered that the BlueOS app continued to categorize them as Jazz. So, I switched to a Rock CD, but experienced the same result. Fortunately, under the Diagnostics function, there's a "Rebuild Index" option. That mostly re-categorized my discs correctly, some are arguable, but it shouldn't have been necessary at all. Quick summary… Pros: Best value for the price in networked hard drive/CD ripper and streamers No problem using an Ethernet-WiFi converter Plenty of storage Cons: Flaky CD drive Slow ripping process Tedious, poorly-designed app To start, I initially hesitated to buy the Vault 2i, owing to the number of poor reviews that I found online. First and foremost, the requirement for a hard-wired Ethernet connection seemed to be a non-starter. But, after reading a favorable review from a customer that successfully employed an Ethernet-to-WiFi converter, I took the plunge. I installed the BlueOS app, then hooked up the Vault to a BrosTrend WiFi converter. On initial bootup, I was very surprised that the app asked me to connect my phone to WiFi, odd given the Ethernet-only connection, but I was up and running! I began by ripping my collection of jazz CDs, but contrary to some reviewers’ reports, they consistently take about 20 minutes each! I’ve asked Bluesound customer support about this, and they blamed the network connection, saying it should be more like 10-15 minutes. My home network delivers >600Mbps downlink and uplink, however, so if there’s a network problem it’s in their servers. After a dozen or so CDs, the BlueOS app reported that ripping was taking too long. After about 10 minutes, the Vault was still reading the first track, even though it recognized it! I had read that other users found that come CDs failed, so I switched to another. Same problem! I thought that perhaps, after a dozen or so CDs, the device had overheated. So, I let it rest for a few hours. Trying one of the errant CDs again, the error message only got worse. Rather than “taking too long”, the Vault just reported a disc error. When I reported this problem to Bluesound, they told me I needed to let the Vault rest between rips! But I had done that, so it’s not a credible explanation. Fortunately, I found that rebooting the Vault (Settings > Diagnostics > Reboot) completely eliminated the problem, and enabled it to rip the two CDs it had a problem with before. Having overcome the read-error issue, I continued ripping CDs, and inserted my last before going to bed for the evening. When I checked the Vault next morning, the app reported that no CD was inserted. Maybe I was mistaken, but when I tried inserting another, it wouldn’t go in. Once again.. REBOOT! When the Vault came back online, it recognized the CD that was already in its drive, and proceeded to rip it properly. More ripping went well for a while, when the Vault suddenly refused to accept a CD. The slot was blocked. OK.. reboot for a third time! I then was able to insert a new CD, but immediately heard an unusual noise and vibration, although it had already ripped the first track. So… Settings > Music Player > Ripping > Eject CD!!! The Vault then ejected the CD, and I discovered a thin strip of some sort of adhesive tape attached to the underside! It makes sense that would cause the vibration, but where did that come from? It certainly wasn’t on my CD, but how curious that it occurred right after the blocked slot problem? Bluesound’s response? “The adhesive strip is not from the Vault. There are strips around the CD drive, however, they are black and not grey as seen in the picture we received.” Riiight! OK.. day 3 and I’ve (so far) avoided any of the previous problems. But oh that app! Some of the functions, such as accessing the ripping status, are completely nonsensical. Settings > Music library > Ripping > Rip / Encode status ???? Four steps??? It’s nice that the app home screen has quick-access icons for Home, Favorites, Music, Players, and Search, but once you’re buried several layers deep.. there’s no way to Home other than retracing all your steps. It always makes me wonder if these UI designers actually use the app they’ve deigned. This one is horrible!

Purchased in 2019, crapped out two days ago, bulging caps in the power supply, 6 years of use and now it's screwed, along with all the cd's I ripped to it. This problem is known, garbage.
