HolyClothing Catriona Empire Flare Long Gypsy Peasant Dress

I bought this dress for our son's country wedding which was held on May 4, 2013. I bought the large based on the sizing recommendations from the company. It fit perfectly! I wish I was a smaller gal like I used to be. However, I'm not. I wear maxi dresses a lot year round and this dress was very comfortable to wear. The reception was held in a large barn. After the picture taking dances and cake cutting, the other Mom and the bride changed into jeans. I brought mine too. This dress was so comfortable though, that I decided to stay in it instead of wearing binding jeans. The green is exactly like in the picture. The dress has enough embroidery to be worn to a formal gathering as well. There are ties in the back that aren't very long. The only negative comment I have is that the dress had a funky smell to it. The directions did state that it should be washed inside out prior to wearing. I washed it (forgot to put it inside out) on delicate and then hung it up to dry. It will need to be ironed. If that is a job you hate, you could take it to the dry cleaners and they can do it for you. It was beautiful and the funky odor was mostly gone. There were other dresses from this same company that I wanted to purchase. However, they didn't carry my size. I think I would be happy with any of them since they are very similar in style. As far as length, I'm 5' 7" and the dress was just above the floor when I wore my flats. I also received many compliments. If you like a bohemian look then this is the dress for you. If you want a look that is elegant and yet different, then this is the look for you. I'm in my fifties and this dress did not make me look like I was trying to be a young woman. My daughter, who is very stylish would not have let me wear this if that was the case. Suffice it to say the sizes run true and you will feel very comfortable.

I love this dress! I wore it to an outside Fourth of July wedding. My sister said to wear comfortable clothes, but I also wanted to look nice because of the added special occasion. I went by the size chart and ordered up a size because I am on the borderline between sizes. It feels wonderful on, and the length is perfect. I'm 5'3.5" and I wore flats with this. Now I am trying to get other colors, but they are all sold out! I have been watching this dress for sometime now, and I finally got off the fence and ordered it. Wow, am I glad I did! The blue is a little darker than viewed, but that is to be expected with various monitors. Even though my sister said it was unnecessary, I did order a dark slip to wear under it. The day was very hot and humid, but I was VERY comfortable. Please note, I have not worn a dress in several years. I can't wait till they get more in stock!

This dress will be one of my favorites. I was astounded that it fit just as it was supposed to fit!!! (How often does THAT happen these days??!) It was a tiny bit roomy, which was just what I wanted, and even the correct length!!! Congratulations to the seamstresses for this company!!! The dress is wonderful. The skirt hangs beautifully, and is so full that, if I stand up and hold one corner of the hem (with the dress off, in my hands), the fabric is actually as tall as I am! Fabulous dress!

April 2017 - My daughter absolutely loves this dress. It is very soft and comfortable. We have not washed it yet so will update if there are issues. The gored panels without the embroidery are pretty see through so a slip is warranted for modesty.

The fit of this dress is fantastic, and the embroidery is well done.I ordered a color that doesn't seem to be available anymore (which is odd, since I ordered it just last week). If the "Silver Pewter" color ever re-appears, I would like to advise buyers that it is not, in fact, silver. It's a powder blue. A pretty color, mind, but this means it doesn't match the accessories I intended it to go with.

Comfy, but not very flattering. Very boxy.I like the embroidery. Some of it was unraveling a tiny bit, but I was able to fix that fairly easily & I'm terrible with a needle & thread.Update: Changing my review from 3 to 5 stars because I wear this comfy, unflattering dress way too often.

Except it cannot be steamed, must be washed in cold water on gentle, and must be pressed from the back.

I had pretty good luck with this dress after reading all the reviews on Holy Clothing garments. For over a year, I had been debating whether I should buy clothing from them and the Catriona dress is my first try. I usually wear a medium, but when the only dress available in Ruby Red was a large (and the last one at that!), I bought it believing that it would have to be taken in. When it came, it actually fit perfect with very little room left to spare in the bust area. I have a 40" bust and 31" waist. The Ruby Red color is deeper in red and darker which gives it a more formal appearance than the color shown in the picture, which is lighter and verging on the pink scale. As I was shopping for a casual dress, I would've preferred the color in the picture, but the actual color is still very beautiful and I decided to keep it anyway. The garment looks well made as all the seams look to be well sewn. (If it doesn't hold up to cleaning, I will update this review.) I live in San Diego where the summers are hot (like always 78 degrees and above), so I can't wear it during the daytime as the thickness of the fabric and volume of the dress itself would make it too hot. However, after the sun goes down and the air cools off between 70 and 76 degrees, it is the perfect weight for those temperatures without a wrap. I'm guessing that anything cooler than 70 degrees would require a wrap and/or scarf. (If you live in a hot climate with a very dry heat, you could probably get away with wearing it during the daytime up to the low 80's.) The dress really does look beautiful and can go just about anywhere given it's simple style, but I would not recommend it as a go-to summer daytime dress.

I have several HolyClothing blouses and dresses, and this dress is a beautiful addition to my wardrobe. The color is rich, the fabric is soft.

Great fun dress.

My wife has been enjoying wearing this dress, and I don't mind seeing her in it.

I am 5'5 and the dress hits the floor when I'm barefoot, other than that it's beautiful. I haven't washed it yet so nothing to report on shrinkage.

Love it. Fits great. I bought it for a fraternal society I belong to. Perfect.
